We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher for a 21 months postdoc position commencing 1 June 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post doc will be focused on the research project “ Discovering fecal microRNA expression profiles as biomarkers of gastro-intestinal cancer in dogs and cats” which is supported by The Independent Research Fund Denmark.

Description of the scientific environment

Our research group is part of the Section of Animal Genetics, Bioinformatics and Breeding. One of the focus areas of our research is to identify biomarkers that can be used for clinical diagnostics of diseases in dogs and cats. Our group has a broad research network both nationally and internationally. The postdoc will be collaborating with researchers at Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences.

Your job

You would be involved in a research project investigating differential levels of microRNAs in feces, serum and intestinal tissues from healthy dogs and cats and from canine and feline patients affected with inflammatory bowel disease or gastrointestinal cancer. Your tasks would be to perform bioinformatic analysis of small RNA seq data and to perform qPCR to confirm the candidates found. The project is expected to result in the establishment of a fecal/serum miRNA panel that can be included in the diagnostic workup for gastrointestinal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease in dogs and cats.

Profile

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competences and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in a medical or biological field
  • You have basic competences in Linux, python, R or similar
  • You have laboratory skills with respect to RNA isolation and qPCR
  • You have an active interest in disease biology
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable skills:

  • Knowledge in genetics
  • Competences in analysis of Next generation sequencing technologies
  • Curious mind-set with strong interest in the field of Biomarkers and microRNAs

Place of employment

Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating work conditions in an international research environment with many local and international partners in the project. Our research facility includes modern laboratories and state of the art equipment for the feasibility of the project.

Terms of employment

The employment as Postdoc is full time and for 21 months. Starting date is 1 June 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter

Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Currently, the monthly salary starts at 33,600 DKK/ approx. 4,480 Euro (April 2018-level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Ministerial Order on the Job Structure of Academic Staff at Universities of 11 December 2019.

The further process
