The Royal Danish Academy of Music hereby advertises the part-time position of Professor of Composition.
The position
The coming professor must be able to teach composition as principal study at all levels, including, where appropriate, teaching in disciplines related to the principal study. In addition, he or she must be able to teach subjects such as the aesthetics and history of new music.
It is assumed that the future professor, in close cooperation with the department head, the other teachers, the Academy’s governing bodies and the President, will contribute to the continued renewal and further development of the study programme, as well as to the positioning of new music at the Academy and its relevance in society.
The position also encompasses administrative duties in connection with the organisation of teaching, study plans and participation in examinations, etc. The post of department head may also be included. The pedagogical and artistic research activities involved in the position will be agreed in further detail. Working hours will be arranged by agreement with the President.
Skills and qualifications
An overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications will be carried out, emphasising:
The application must illuminate and document the above qualifications, and include a detailed description of the applicant’s personal and professional objectives with the position. The applicant must also give a personal view of how the composer study programme can best educate future graduates to both meet the requirements of the music world and contribute actively to its development, and what role the applicant sees himself or herself playing in this development. The application may also include previous or ongoing development projects.
An overall assessment will be made of the candidates’ qualifications in relation to the requirements of the position. Applications, CVs, diplomas, etc. must be submitted electronically. Artistic/pedagogical research work that the applicant wishes to be included in the assessment may be submitted either electronically or separately by post (e.g. books, CDs or other material in five copies). The submitted material will not be returned.
The Academy is an international educational institution where it is natural that all staff members can also provide teaching in English. We regard diversity as a resource, and we therefore encourage everyone, regardless of personal background, to apply.
Terms of employment
The position will be filled under the terms of a collective agreement, and is classified in salary scale 37, in which the salary as of 1 April 2021 is DKK 578,951 per annum, full-time. In addition, a pension and possible personal allowance will be negotiated between the Academy and the relevant negotiating organisation.
The appointment procedure will take place in accordance with Ministry of Culture Executive Order no.1123 of 22 October 2018 on the Recruitment of Artistic/Academic staff at Certain Educational Institutions under the Ministry of Culture. In this connection, an assessment of the applicants’ qualifications will be carried out. The application, together with the above-mentioned documentation, must reach the Royal Danish Academy of Music no later than 12 noon on Friday 18 June.

- Significant artistic activity as a composer at international level
- Pedagogical experience in the teaching of composition as a principal study at all levels, including possible disciplines related to the principal study
- Independent artistic research and/or pedagogical research at international level, and other pedagogical/communication experience in the field of new music
- The ability to work with other staff groups across the organisation and a desire to take on professional leadership responsibilities
