At the Royal Danish Academy of Music a position as Professor of Voice has been advertised, with commencement on 1 August 2024 or shortly thereafter.

The position

The future professor will be responsible for educating singers in their principal study up to the highest soloist standard. It is assumed that the professor will contribute actively to the development of the vocal programmes in close collaboration with the other teachers, the head of the Opera Academy, the Head of Studies and the Academy President. This applies not only to the soloistic elements of the study programmes, but also to all parts that aim to promote students’ opportunities to meet the various demands of the labour market in the fields of opera, solo singing, ensemble and choir singing, music pedagogy, etc.

It is expected that the professor will assume a significant degree of responsibility for leading the vocal department and participating in the department’s work with the study programmes. The position also includes administrative duties in connection with organising and participating in teaching, examinations, entrance examinations, meetings, etc. The position’s content of artistic research (KUV) and pedagogical development activities (PUV), as well as any other artistic projects, will be organised by agreement with the President.

Qualifications

An assessment of the applicant’s qualifications will be carried out, taking into account:

  • Artistic work as an opera singer and soloist at international level
  • Extensive experience of long-term teaching courses – both artistic and technical – with singers at all levels of training at Academy level. Special emphasis is placed on experience in training opera singers at Master’s and Postgraduate Master’s level
  • Artistic research and/or pedagogical development activities, or equivalent activities at international level
  • Extensive repertoire knowledge in opera, oratorio and lied repertoire, as well as other solo vocal repertoire
  • Relevant knowledge of German, Italian, French, British/American English, and possible Scandinavian or Slavonic languages
  • The ability to co-operate with other staff groups

A motivated letter of application, CV, diplomas, and documentation of artistic activities, artistic research and educational development activities, as well as of any teaching that the applicant wishes to be included in the assessment, must be submitted electronically. Possible recordings may be collected on a playlist. The overall application must elucidate and document the qualification requirements for the position and contain a detailed account of the applicant’s personal and professional goals for fulfilling the position. Suggestions for concrete projects within Artistic Research (KUV) and Pedagogical Development (PUV) may be included.

The Academy is an institution of higher artistic education with an international profile, where it is natural that all teachers can also provide teaching in English. We regard diversity as a resource, and we therefore encourage everyone, regardless of personal background, to apply for the position. Other employment will be possible to the extent that this is compatible with the position at RDAM.

Salary and employment conditions

The position is to be filled under the terms of a collective agreement, and is classified in salary scale 37, where the salary as of 1 October 2023 is DKK 604,051 per annum for a full-time position. On top of this come pension contributions and a possible personal allowance.

As a starting point, the position will be filled at approximately 75 percent of full-time for a limited period of five years, with the possibility of extension for up to three years. Appointment will occur in accordance with Ministry of Culture Executive Order no. 1123 of 22 October 2018 on the Recruitment of Artistic/Academic staff at Certain Educational Institutions under the Ministry of Culture.
