The Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, University of Copenhagen, invites applications for a position as associate professor in Landscape Design, Technology and Climate Change Adaptation. The position is open from 1 January 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Transition of cities towards sustainability and climate resilience calls for changes in a range of urban infrastructures, not least infrastructures for urban water management. Here nature-based solutions like green infrastructures for stormwater management are of special interest, since such approaches may provide multiple services, relating to several sustainability and resilience goals. For transitions based on such novel approaches to be successful, the physical designs must be feasible and attractive from a landscape architecture point of view. Further, for the planning process to come through inter-disciplinary and cross–sectoral collaboration must proceed smoothly, and the postulated services must be documented.

We seek a candidate who hold skills and competencies within:

  • Critically analyze the relationship between green infrastructure, stormwater management and overall urban water balances, based on both knowledge of natural sciences and perspectives to urban open space related design, planning and management
  • Analyze city’s practice (including policy, plans and implementation) on nature-based stormwater management, in relation to sustainable and climate resilience, as well as the drivers and barriers of those practice
  • Competences to initiate documentation of added values (e.g. livability and multiple services) of nature-based solution to stormwater management in cities with quantifiable measures
  • Research within integration of added values with sustainable stormwater management in cities, through planning and design, policy and transition process recommendations
  • Experience with international research projects is an advantage.
