Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a Research Assistant with a focus on circular supply chain management at the Department of Operations Management.

Overview

The research areas of the Department covers and integrates five academic research areas: Supply Chain Management (design and management of flows of goods, services, knowledge and information between firms); Management Accounting (design, use and effects of financial and non-financial measures in strategy development and implementation); Innovation Management (deployment of management tools and mechanisms to connect technology, organization and markets); Operations Management (relation between production, organization and strategy in manufacturing and service industries); Managerial Economics (decision modelling around pricing, costing, production planning and forecasting).

Our vision is to be creative in ideas and strong in practice! It is the ambition of the Department to be orientated towards questions that attempt to debate the boundaries of the areas. This allows cross-disciplinary exchange of research ideas and helps fostering a strong intellectual environment. The Department understands management in relation to managerial tools and instruments that help to frame and make business issues visible and making them amenable to intervention, development and control.

The Department wishes to develop research and teaching in close connection with practice. Candidates who are able to add to the general fields of Management Accounting, Managerial Economics, Operations Management, Innovation Management and Supply Chain Management and work among two or more of the areas will have an advantage. Competency and skill from empirical research by any method is an advantage as is the ability to bridge to other of the Department’s research areas.

The Department of Operations Management supplies teaching and supervision to undergraduate, graduate, masters, executive and PhD programmes in economics and business administration.

Currently, the Department hosts four broad research programs:

• Servitization
• Circular Economy
• Pricing and Management Accounting
• Maritime Business Studies

The Department also supports multiple academic initiatives. This Research Assistant position is related to the Department’s new Reimagining Supply Chains Initiative.

We are looking for applicants who will be interested in and qualified to undertake research in the following research area: Research as part of a project titled “The Supply Chain of the 21st Century: Towards Ethical, Social and Circular Business Models”, which is co-financed by CBS and the Nordakademie Foundation, Germany.

The circular economy has gained traction as a model for companies and governments to tackle the harmful sustainability impacts associated with our globalized system of production and consumption. With the goal of decoupling economic growth and use of finite resources, the circular economy represents an industrial system that is restorative or regenerative by design. However, there is growing recognition that even large-scale cycling of materials through reuse, remanufacturing and recycling will be insufficient to meet the challenge of today’s climate and biodiversity crises, and that circular business models may simply extend ‘business as usual’ within the current growth paradigm. The Research Assistant will work on research related to circular business models. The research assistant is a non-tenured position with teaching obligations. Research tasks will include, but are not limited to:

• Coordinating research activities, including communication and coordination with companies,
• Participation and facilitating group-based research, meeting high international standards,
• Promoting CBS’s academic reputation,
• Promoting the research capabilities of Copenhagen Business School and other relevant assignments at Copenhagen Business School,
• Communicating findings to the public in general and to CBS’s stakeholders in particular,
• Responsibility for planning scientific communication, and
• Active participation in the regular research activities, such as research seminars, workshops and conferences.

Qualifications
The candidate should possess a Master degree, or equivalent qualifications and have a professional proficiency in English (written and spoken). It is expected that the position will have a large collaboration with companies and candidates who have experience in developing and organizing events for companies will have an advantage. Emphasis is placed on the applicant’s research potential, which means that a researcher with a large research potential may be preferred to a researcher with a large research production.

Terms of employment
Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The appointment is for 37 hours per week and the starting date is expected to be 1 September 2021. The period of employment will be September 2021 to 28 February 2023.

Recruitment procedure
The Recruitment Committee expects to shortlist minimum two applicants; when possible five or more applicants will be shortlisted. The shortlisted applicants will be assessed by the Assessment Committee. All applicants will be notified of their status in the recruitment process shortly after the application deadline.
