Do you want to contribute with new knowledge on the long-term impact of breastfeeding on cancer risk in the mother and her child? Do you have competencies in working with large epidemiological data? If so, you could be the new postdoc in our team.
The Section for Epidemiology is looking for a postdoctoral researcher starting October 1, 2022 or soon thereafter.
The position
The successful candidate will join the research group “Life-course epidemiology” in the Section of Epidemiology. Breastfeeding is proposed to affect the health of the mother and child across the lifespan. However, beyond protection from breast cancer in the mother, this hypothesis remains poorly tested. The postdoc will use an epidemiological approach to investigate whether breastfeeding reduces the risk of common adult-onset cancers in the mother and her child. Moreover, a focus will be to examine which factors drive these associations as well as to study the impact of infant weight gain on these associations. The work will be conducted using data from large Danish cohorts with high-quality measures of breastfeeding, a national biobank and national registers.
The project is a stand-alone project under a greater research program, involving national and international collaborators, investigating the long-term impact of breastfeeding on later health. Thus, the successful candidate will be responsible for data management, scientific work related to maternal and child health, participating in the design and conduct of a series of studies within this project including statistical analysis of large complex data set, writing scientific papers and presentations of the findings at national and international conferences. The candidate will be expected to interact with the research group, collaborate with internal and external researchers and to seek grant support to expand the research program.
Qualifications
Applicants for this research position should have a degree in epidemiology, public health, statistics, biological sciences, human nutrition or medicine. Applicants must have obtained a PhD degree, or be in the last phase of a PhD study, in a relevant field.
A successful applicant is highly experienced in epidemiological techniques, in working with large and complex datasets, preferably also with register-based studies and has significant knowledge of advanced statistical techniques (in Stata, SAS and/or R). The candidate should have a successful publication record, preferably within the areas of maternal and child nutrition and/or cancer epidemiology. Good communication, writing and organizational skills are required, and the candidate is expected to be highly proficient in spoken and written English.
Our group and research
The candidate will join an integrated group of PhDs, postdocs and senior researchers within the Section for Epidemiology at the Center for Clinical Research and Prevention, Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospital (placed at Frederiksberg hospital). The candidate will interact with researchers from various scientific disciplines (including biostatistics, epidemiology, health promotion and medicine) and actively contribute to the research environment in the section. Working with advanced epidemiological methods and large population-based cohorts, we investigate how early life growth and nutrition are related to the risks of cardiovascular disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, as well as many other diseases.
