Do you have an interest in working with celiac disease, epidemiology, and large register-based data? If so, you could be the new PhD in our team.
The Section for Epidemiology is looking for a PhD student starting October 1, 2023 or soon thereafter.
The project
Celiac disease is a chronic autoimmune condition caused by an abnormal immune response triggered by the ingestion of gluten-containing grains (wheat, rye, and barley) in genetically susceptible individuals. We have previously shown that celiac disease is underdiagnosed and undertreated; which may have serious health consequences for the affected individuals. This project aims to reduce the documented diagnostic delay in celiac disease by developing a prediction model, based on biochemistry data, that can identify individuals with high risk of undiagnosed celiac disease, and thereby reduce the burden of disease. Furthermore, the project aims to assess the consequences - in terms of health-care costs - and socioeconomic inequity in diagnosis and treatment of celiac disease by utilizing the unique registry-based data from Denmark. You will work closely with the research team and collaborate with internal and external collaborators. The project and the three-year PhD position is funded by a research grant from The Louis-Hansen Foundation: https://louis-hansenfonden.dk/projekter/bispebjerg-og-frederiksberg-hospital/.
Your role
You’ll conduct all parts of this epidemiological PhD project from rough ideas to final published research papers and communication of the results to relevant stakeholders. This includes the following major responsibilities:
Depending on your qualifications and interests there will be possibilities for e.g., international research stays, grant applications to expand the research program, supervision, various communication tasks, leading study groups, and teaching. You’ll interact with researchers from various scientific disciplines (including biostatistics, epidemiology, health promotion and medicine) and actively contribute to the research environment in the Center.
