PhD position at the Clinical Experimental Research Department – Sensory Biology Unit

The current position (available from of 1st of March 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter) is made available through funding from the Lundbeckfonden, and is a full-time PhD position, initiated with a 3-month Research Assistant Position. The workplace is localized in Forskerparken, at Rigshospitalet in Glostrup and the position is at the Clinical and Experimental Research Department - Sensory Biology Unit. You will primarily work with optimizing and establishing new models of migraine and pain in rodents. Current methods include both in vivo and ex vivo approaches, particularly focusing on cellular signaling mechanisms.

The workplace

The Sensory Biology Unit managed by Senior Researcher Kristian A. Haanes is a subdivision under the Department of Clinical Experimental Research (lead by Prof. Lars Edvinsson). The Sensory Biology Unit is focused on understanding the fundamental processes underlying the sensory innervation with particular focus on pain-related sensory neurons. The research is based on the knowledge that sensory systems use similar biological processes for signaling, adaptation and modulation, and for protection from injury. Important current projects include the understanding of migraine pain and its associated sensory disturbances.

Your profile:

You should be a proactive and enthusiastic researcher with:

  • A MSc degree in Life sciences or similar, neurobiology is considered an advantage
  • Experience in Migraine/Pain Research is considered positively
  • Strong English communication skills, orally and in writing.
  • Excellent collaborative skills.

Your position

You will be employed for a 3-months as a research assistant, during which you will work in close collaboration with the senior researcher, and create a detailed 3-year PhD-plan. You will then be admitted into the PhD school at the Faculty of Science, Department of Biology, Copenhagen University. Furthermore, there will be collaborations with other researchers in-house and clinicians from the hospital.

Salary and Terms of Employment

Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Regions (“Danske Regioner”) and the relevant professional organization.
