A combined position as clinical professor (50 %) and as consultant (50 %) is vacant at The Department of Regional Health Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and at The Center for Shared Decision Making, Lillebaelt Hospital, Vejle, Denmark.

The position is for a 5-year period with the possibility of extension.

Lillebaelt Hospital has received acknowledgement of high-quality research and education and is part of The University Hospital of Southern Denmark.

The academic position

The clinical professor will be appointed at The Department of Regional Health Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, SDU. The position will be in research in the area of shared decision making. Trans-sectional research and collaboration will be expected.

Areas of responsibility

The clinical professor will be Head of Research at the Center for Shared Decision Making and will be responsible for strengthening and promoting research in shared decision making and patient decision aids. The clinical professor will also be responsible for developing new strategies for collaboration with other key stakeholders in the areas of shared decision making.

Additionally, the clinical professor should teach and mentor postdocs, PhD students, and postgraduate students, as well as maintain and develop national and international contacts and secure funding. Participation in assessment work is part of the position. Moreover, profiling the research area in the public eye will be an important task.

Research activity, network, and collaboration

The clinical professor will be expected to increase research activity at the research unit and to expand collaboration with other researchers at hospitals in The Region of Southern Denmark, at SDU, and in the rest of Denmark. Establishment of international collaborations of benefit to The Center for Shared Decision Making and for Lillebaelt Hospital will be expected as well.

The clinical position

The applicant must be qualified as a senior consultant. The clinical position will be at The Center for Shared Decision Making, Lillebaelt Hospital, Vejle, Denmark. An important part of the position will be the professional sparring with the staff at the centre who - among other things - also is working on the implementation of shared decision making. The position does not include responsibility of the implementation.

Qualifications

The successful applicant has a PhD or equivalent postgraduate research qualification and must be qualified as a consultant in a specialized medical specialty. Additionally, the applicant must have substantial skills in both clinical aspects and research within the field of shared decision making. Applicants with research interests that complement the ongoing shared decision-making research within the centre will be preferred. Furthermore, the preferred candidate has demonstrated skills and scientific achievements within this area, is able to motivate, supervise and has proven research management skills, has good interpersonal skills, and has visions of how to further strengthen research at The Center for Shared Decision Making. A strong publication record and significant experience in raising external funding will be required. Danish will not be required initially, but must be mastered at proficiency level C1, at the Common European Framework of References for Languages within the first 2 years of employment.

The department focuses on the continuity of patient care across sectors, hospitals, and specialist fields.

The clinical professor will refer to the hospital management in matters concerning the clinical part of the job, and to the Head of The Department of Regional Health Research in matters regarding the professorship.

Salary and terms of employment

The successful applicant for the clinical professor position will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

  • National and international research collaboration and collaborations with researchers in other disciplines and sectors
  • As to the post as consultant: information on the applicant’s own skills as concerns "the seven roles of the physician" inclusive of supporting evidence
  • A research plan detailing the candidate’s ideas and plans for her/his future research work
