The Department of Business Development and Technology (BTECH) at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University invites applications for research assistant positions in digital business development. The positions are a fixed-term full-time employment (three years). The starting date is 1 January 2020 or as agreed upon.

Job description
The positions are related (but not exclusively) to the H2020 NGI POINTER project with specific responsibilities, including:
  1. Digital business development: Over three years, 48 teams of researchers and entrepreneurs all over Europe are looking at new tools, protocols and mechanisms underpinning the internet architectures. You will guide them to develop their ideas from a business perspective and develop a go-to-market strategy, investigating options related to open source, licensing and software as a service amongst other ideas.
  2. Funding policies: Investigating funding policies and acceleration using non-equity government funding called Financial Support to Third Parties (FSTP) for internet entrepreneurship. You will be identifying success criteria and develop policy recommendations for future EU Framework Programmes.
  3. Project management: You will be helping the coordinator manage the day-to-day operation of the project.
  4. Travel: You will need to be able to travel frequently (once per month for 2-3 days) to meet with internet entrepreneurs and the project partners. On occasion, this will also be during weekends for specific matchmaking events and boot camps.

Background information about the project and the Next Generation Internet
The Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative, launched by the European Commission in the autumn of 2016, aims to shape the future internet as an interoperable platform ecosystem embodying the values that Europe holds dear: openness, inclusivity, transparency, privacy, cooperation and protection of data. The NGI drives this technological revolution and ensures the progressive adoption of advanced concepts and methodologies spanning the domains of artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, interactive technologies and more, while contributing to making the future internet more human-centric (https://www.ngi.eu/about/).

The NGI POINTER project is one of several H2020 projects supporting the initiative. The project focuses on changing the underlying fabric of the internet and the web itself by supporting promising bottom-up projects that are able to build on top of SOA research, scalable protocols and tools to assist in the practical transition or migration to new or updated technologies.

The NGI POINTER project will scout and support European-based ‘internet talents’ in developing and providing new marketable solutions backed in state-of-the-art technology and research that provide alternative and/or auxiliary tools and protocols with specific value propositions and self-sustainable business models for specific use case areas related to internet architecture renovation. These include, among others: Privacy-by-design; Internet of Things; network optimisation; virtualisation and isolation; limitations in the TCP/IP protocol suite; ecommerce security; autonomous network operations and control; energy efficiency; etc.

The project runs from 1 January 2020 until 31 December 2022 and is coordinated by BTECH. The other three partners are from Poland, Spain and Germany. The project is funded with EUR 7 million (EUR 5.6 million is allocated to third parties) and runs for three years.
