The position
Are you an experienced small molecule scientist who would like to be part of ALK's research department?
The open position is placed in Analytical sciences, Biotechnology, which is part of Global Research. The position is placed in Hørsholm, Denmark.
The team is highly involved in the early discovery of new potential lead candidates, such as natural and recombinant allergens/proteins, peptides and small molecules. Further, the team supports existing products.
Lead candidates are characterized by utilizing several methods covering both general protein-chemical methods and more specialized analytical tools (Mass spectrometry, HPLC, DLS, Circular Dichroism, Octet etc.).
You will be joining our team to strengthen our knowledge within small molecules and the biophysical based analytical research platform.
We expect that you are a natural team-player, possess strong personal collaboration skills and put performance of the team above individual targets.

Fields of responsibility
- Structure elucidation of small organic molecules and peptides using LC-MS (in-house) and NMR with contract analytical services
- Mass Spectrometry method development and identification of trace level small molecules, peptides that may result from process impurities, degradation products, or metabolites
- Guidance of Contract Research Organizations within medicinal chemistry and lead optimization of small molecules
- Qualitative and quantitative LC-MS, and "wet" chemistry (isolation, extraction and derivatization)
- Maintenance/troubleshooting and LC-MS instrumentation
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Contract Research Organization or other departments and functions outside Global Research e.g. CMC Development, Production, Medical and Regulatory Affairs
- Participate in relevant international congresses, publish in international scientific journals and contribute to patents and discovery of innovations
Your qualifications
- Ph. D. in Chemistry/Organic chemistry/Medicinal chemistry or related fields preferable with postdoctoral training or industry experience
- Strong background in theory and fundamentals of mass spectrometry and ionization methodologies for small organic molecules
- Extensive experience in characterization and quantification of synthetic small organic molecules and natural product extracts by LC-MS
- Strong background in theoretical and experimental organic chemistry to propose the origin of unknown components
- Experienced within the field of medicinal chemistry and small molecule drug discovery
- Experienced in collaborating with diverse teams and Contract Research Organization
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; highly organized and efficient record keeping
- Ability to provide clear reports and scientific direction to management, colleagues and collaborators
