The Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a three year PhD position focusing on the combination of chromium and cadmium stable isotopes in ancient sedimentary archives to reconstruct redox conditions and bioproductivity in ambient seawater, with the ultimate aim to link respective signals to climate fluctuations in the past. The projects build on both, experimental and applied research strategies.
The ideal candidate will have a solid (isotope-) geochemistry/geology base knowledge and familiarization with sedimentary processes is an advantage. Previous experience with working in clean lab environments, with isotope geochemical systems and respective analytical techniques, such as TIMS and/or MC-ICPMS, are beneficial. Willingness and interest to perform own laboratory experiments and to process samples through our laboratory facilities is a prerequisite. The PhD’s duties will include research, manuscript preparation, help with MSc student supervision and assistance with teaching.
Your work place will be the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management (IGN), which conducts research and education on the past, present and future physical, chemical and biological environments of the Earth and their interactions with societal and human systems to provide candidates and research in support of sustainable future solutions for society. We value scientific interactions among colleagues, cross disciplinary interactions and care for the early career scientists.
