The National Institute of Public Health (NIPH), Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark seeks to appoint a Professor of Public Health Humanities to commence as soon as possible.
Through this professorship NIPH seeks to strengthen its position as a platform for interdisciplinary research that integrates humanistic theory and methods in empirical public health research. The role of the professor will be to develop the emerging field of public health humanities and to provide a coherent framework for research on the impact of social and humanistic factors on health communication and healthcare interaction. Hence, the research of the candidate should bridge empirical public health research with perspectives from the humanistic research tradition. Further, the professorship should serve to strengthen the collaboration between NIPH and established research environments within the humanities including the international field of Health Humanities.
The professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
• Research in the field of Public Health Humanities
• Research development including research funding and supervision of PhD students
• Research management at a strategic and administrative level
• Obligation to impact society through scientific publications, teaching, partnerships, public seminars and research-based advice-giving.
Qualifications and skills:
• A relevant PhD degree.
• International publications and experience with research- and community-oriented dissemination, both at a national and international level.
• Experience with interdisciplinary research including experience with the integration of humanistic theory and methods in public health research such as epidemiological analyses and qualitative research methods.
• Experience with research management at a strategic and administrative level.
• Experience in teaching at university level and supervision at university and PhD level. Experience with developing courses is also of relevance.
• Experience with funding and executing of different types of studies and research, and therefore will be able to participate in various types of research projects.
• Experience in research-based advice to public health authorities.
• Experience in cooperating with external partners (such as municipalities and NGO’s) on funding, execution, and implementation of studies.
• A broad knowledge on prevention, health promotion and intervention research in different settings and target groups.
• It is required that the applicant can speak and write Danish.

Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
