GEUS builds knowledge of the entire water cycle and contributes with high quality hydrogeological and hydrogeochemical knowledge in all subsurface and drinking water supply matters. With the purpose to streghthen GEUS’ competencies within nano-scale studies of geochemical processes as well as within circular solutions to ground- and drinking water related environmental problems, the Department of Geochemistry offers a permanent position as Senior Researcher.
Job description
The senior researcher will be a part of the team in the Geochemistry Department working with coupled understanding of hydrogeochemical processes both in relation to water treatment technology development as well as to groundwater geochemistry projects. It is expected that the senior researcher will take active part in the development of the team to position GEUS as an internationally renowned research institution within the understanding of hydrogeochemical processes..
Specific functions in the position include being responsible for design and execution field and laboratory experiments with support from our technical staff as well as the development of the nano-scale competencies of the Geochemistry Department. In this context, an important role is to coordinate and facilitate proposals to synchrotron user facilities.
With the nano-scale geochemical basis and focus on mechanistic understanding of hydrogeochemical processes, it is further expected that the senior researcher will establish a project portfolio with focus on circular solutions to environmental problems of hydrogeochemical character.
Your qualifications
The appointment will be made on the basis of academic qualifications. Upon appointment, particular emphasis is placed on the following qualifications:
We are searching for a highly talented, motivated, and self-driven person who enjoys interfacing with researchers from different disciplines.
Department of Geochemistry
The aim of the Department of Geochemistry is to understand the fate of chemical substances in soil, groundwater and the deeper subsurface. The activities are characterised by both experimental work in the laboratory, field tests, and numerical modelling. The fate of pesticides and other xenobiotics in soil and groundwater is one of the department’s core research areas. Another research area includes the understanding of hydrogeochemical processes during CO2-rock interaction in soil, groundwater aquifers, water treatment facilities, and geothermal reservoirs. We also process groundwater chemistry data in relation to monitoring of the Danish groundwater. We are a staff of about 30 persons, comprising researchers, consultants, postdocs, technicians, and students.
We offer
Salary and conditions of employment
In accordance with the collective agreements between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the relevant eligible trade union.
The appointment area is the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities and its institutions. Start of appointment is 1. March 2022.
