GEUS builds knowledge of the entire water cycle and contributes to the understanding of related microbiological processes. In the Department of Geochemistry, we want to strengthen our environmental microbiological profile amongdst others to increase our understanding of the presence of multi-resistant bacteria in soil and the aqeuous environment. Therefore, we are looking for a senior researcher in environmental microbiology. The position is for a 3-year period.
Job description
We are looking for a versatile researcher who is prepared to work with a number of different academic issues in a multidisciplinary department, where the common focus is the understanding of chemical and microbiological processes in soil and the aqeuous environment. Common to all tasks is that you are the molecular microbiology expert and you will be responsible for the operation of the department's molecular microbiology laboratory. We expect you to make an effort to contribute to new exciting projects in the department.
Our project portfolio within the area covers i.a. a project focusing on the spread of azole resistance from hotspots in the environment as well as several projects on the microbiological processes that control the degradation of various pollutants in connection with Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR). In addition to working on establishing your own project portfolio, you will be part of these projects and contribute to other projects in the department with focus on, for example, degradation of pesticides in the environment and monitoring of gas emissions from geological CO2 storage.
The position will also include regulatory advice in cases where your microbiological expertise is needed.
Your qualifications
The appointment will be made on the basis of scientific qualifications. Special emphasis is on the following qualifications:
We are searching for a highly talented, motivated, and self-driven person who enjoys interfacing with researchers from different disciplines.
Department of Geochemistry
The aim of the Department of Geochemistry is to understand the fate of chemical substances in soil, groundwater and the deeper subsurface. The activities are characterised by both experimental work in the laboratory, field tests, and numerical modelling. The fate of pesticides and other xenobiotics in soil and groundwater is one of the department’s core research areas. Another research area includes the understanding of hydrogeochemical processes during CO2-rock interaction in soil, groundwater aquifers, water treatment facilities, and geothermal reservoirs. We also process groundwater chemistry data in relation to monitoring of the Danish groundwater. We are a staff of about 30 persons, comprising researchers, consultants, postdocs, technicians, and students.
We offer
Salary and conditions of employment
In accordance with the collective agreements between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the relevant eligible trade union.
The appointment area is the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities and its institutions.
