Professor or Associate Professor on the promotion programme in Hydrology and Water Resources
Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management
Faculty of Science
University of Copenhagen
Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management is hiring a Professor/Associate Professor on the promotion programme in hydrology and water resources to play a leading role in the further development of the department’s and university’s internationally recognized research program in this important area.
The position aims at strengthening and profiling research and education in hydrology and water resources to underpin assessment, sustainable use and protection of water resources both in a national and international context. In a national context emphasis is on exploitation and protection of groundwater resources. The interactions of water with land use, surface characteristics, geological settings and climate are important elements of the position. Relevant research topics include integrated surface water and groundwater modelling at catchment scale, use of satellite data for land surface characterization and estimation of hydrological variables and fluxes, use of geological and geophysical data for quantifying the subsurface geological architecture and the associated uncertainty, impact of climate change on water resources, experimental investigations and modelling of flow, geochemical reactions and reactive transport in heterogeneous geological media and at interfaces between hydrological compartments.
As the successful candidate you should be an internationally recognized scientist with a strong track record in hydrology and water resources linked to geoscience. You must be able to demonstrate a strong research profile in topics that are key to the understanding, modelling and assessment of water resources. Documented research based on existing data and observations and/or field experimental data as well as quantitative assessments of how errors and uncertainties of data, parameters and system understanding propagate to uncertainties in model predictions are key points.
You are expected, in addition to conducting your own research, to play a leading academic role in accordance with the university’s criteria of merits. You are expected to drive and inspire the development of the research field, initiate research proposals and explore the cross-disciplinary potential within the department and the University of Copenhagen. You must teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, conduct assessment tasks, research management including supervision and training of early career scientists and fulfill other tasks requested by the department.
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.
University of Copenhagen’s criteria for recognising merit
Six overall criteria apply for associate professor/professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for an overall assessment of the candidates. Furthermore, each candidate must be assessed according to the specific requirements stated in the job advertisement.
