We welcome applications for an Assistant Professor position for the duration of 3.5 years at the Bioinformatics Centre, Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen.

The Bioinformatics Centre is housed in the Section for Computational and RNA Biology, which currently consists of thirteen research groups working in the fields of computational biology, population and statistical genetics and RNA biology. The Section has state-of-the-art computational infrastructure and laboratory facilities and offers a 2-year Bioinformatics Master program to students with a background in computer science or the biological disciplines.The research from the section is consistently published in highly recognized international journals. Section staff currently includes four professors, seven associate professors, two assistant professors, three laboratory technicians, and more than 40 post docs and PhD students.

Research should be focused within one of two areas: 1) Bioinformatics algorithms, such as NGS mapping/assembly, structural bioinformatics, or probabilistic models, or 2) data analysis, such as gene expression or single cell analysis, regulatory networks or epigenetics.

The position includes substantial teaching responsibilities, including the development of a new course in Data Science for Biology and Biochemistry students in collaboration with other members of the staff. The teaching language is Danish and the working language is English, thus excellent English and Danish speaking, reading and writing skills are required.

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Hold a PhD in bioinformatics or a related subject.
  • Have good understanding of statistics and extensive experience in statistical data analysis, preferably including experience with R.
  • Document teaching experience (Danish language) relevant for the teaching of bioinformatics or computer programming at an introductory level.
  • Have published relevant papers in international, peer-reviewed ISI journals.

In addition, candidates with the following experience will be preferred:

  • Strong programming skills.
  • Documented experience in analysis of Next Generation DNA Sequencing data.
  • Documented experience in protein structure analysis.
  • Documented experience in machine learning and probabilistic models.

Terms of employment:

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

The starting salary is currently up to DKK 434,179 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 74,244). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
