Assistant Professor of Molecular Pharmacology at Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology

Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences

University of Copenhagen

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher who has a strong profile within molecular pharmacology and ligand development within G protein-coupled receptors for a 2 year position to commence May 1, 2020.

The Assistant Professor will work in the Molecular Pharmacology group led by Professor Hans Bräuner-Osborne (https://drug.ku.dk/disciplines/molecular-and-cellular-pharmacology/molecular_pharmacology/) on a project focused on development and pharmacological characterization of small molecule ligands and peptides targeting a range of orphan and peptide G protein-coupled receptors. The project will run in close collaboration with the Computational Receptor Biology group led by Professor David Gloriam.

Information on the department can be found at: https://drug.ku.dk

Our research

The Bräuner-Osborne group focus on pharmacological and physiological characterization of G protein-coupled receptors bridging from development of novel pharmacological tool compounds by integration of pharmacology, medicinal chemistry and computer modelling to understand the physiological role of the receptors using these ligands. The group is located in state-of-the-art laboratories in the new Pharma Science Building and currently consist of 1 Assistant Professor, 5 Postdocs and 1 PhD Student.

Your job

The tasks of the Assistant Professor will mainly consist of performing the research project and some teaching and student supervision. The overall aim of the project is to develop and characterize novel pharmacological tool compounds. The tasks related to the research project will be to (i) screen small molecule libraries on orphan G protein-coupled receptors, (ii) perform structure-activity-relationships with the aim of improving pharmacological profiles of identified screening hits, (iii) determine signalling profiles, activity on native receptors and metabolic stability of selected ligands, (iv) perform similar pharmacological profiling of peptides acting on peptide G protein-coupled receptors.

The Assistant Professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • research, including publication/academic dissemination duties
  • research-based teaching
  • sharing knowledge with society
  • voluntary participation in formal pedagogical training program for assistant professors

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in molecular pharmacology, chemical biology or related science
  • You are highly experienced in molecular pharmacological characterization of G protein-coupled receptors
  • You have an active interest in and experience with ligand design & development and structure-activity-relationships
  • You have pre- and postgraduate teaching experience within pharmacology
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

Experience with, and skills in:

  • mammalian cell culture
  • G protein-coupled receptor pharmacological assay development/optimization
  • screening of ligand libraries
  • metods in medicinal chemistry and chemical analyses
  • analyses of pharmacological data using the GraphPad Prism software package
  • publication in leading journals related to the research project
  • obtaining and managing research grants
