Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen

We are looking for highly motivated and dynamic researchers for two 3-year postdoc positions to study the significance of ribosome modifications and specialized translation in normal biology and pathologies.

The group
The Lund group is an international and dynamic research group comprising several assistant professors, postdocs, PhD students and technicians. Research in the Lund group is focused on understanding how the mammalian ribosome is modified and specialized to conduct specific translational programs. Our goal is to investigate how regulation of ribosome function and translational control contribute to cellular and developmental processes, and how these programs are perturbed in diseases such as cancer (www.bric.ku.dk/research-groups/Research/lund_group/). The projects are interdisciplinary, and we have a large network of national and international collaborators. We value teamwork and strive towards a creative, collaborative and inclusive atmosphere.

Our research
The ribosome is a highly complex machinery at the core of cellular and organismal life. While variations in composition and modification patterns have been reported from ribosomes from many organisms and in specific cellular pathways, little is known about how these variations affect translation. With a focus on rRNA modifications, we study how ribosome variations impact translation and thereby cellular differentiation and development. Importantly, ribosome composition and modification patterns are altered in cancer. We hypothesize these changes to be etiologically linked to cancer development, which could provide new perspectives for cancer treatment. We employ a wide range of methods, including CRISPR, high content screening, various NGS techniques, and model systems including hESC differentiation and mouse genetics.

Your job
Your task will be to develop a unique research project in collaboration with other team members. We value the ability to incorporate existing knowhow and technical expertise, present within the group, with daring and ambitious new approaches.

Profile
We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic scientists with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in Life or Health Sciences
  • You are highly experienced in molecular and cellular biology or biochemistry.
  • You have an active interest in understanding fundamental biology and disease etiology
  • Excellent technical skills and curiosity for learning new techniques
  • Proficient communication skills, written and spoken
  • Ability and willingness to engage in collaborative teamwork

Experience and skills in one or more of the following fields is desirable:

  • Ribosome biology or protein translation
  • RNA biology and RNA modifications
  • Cancer biology and model systems
  • Structural biology
  • Bioinformatics
  • Developmental biology and cell differentiation
  • Method development

Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Biotech Research and Innovation Centre, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and core facilities (www.bric.ku.dk).
We have weekly internal seminars with PhD students and postdocs presenting their work as well as external seminars with international speakers. The institute has an association for students and postdocs (ASAP), a PhD program (MoMeD) and a Postdoc Career Program (PCP). BRIC has extensive international collaborations and actively participates in the European alliance, EU-LIFE consisting of 13 excellent life science research institutions.
BRIC has a highly international profile (more than 60% international researchers) and English as working language. An International Staff Mobility Office at UCPH supports and guides international researchers through your initial steps in Denmark (e.g. residence and work permits, tax and pension, banking, medical care, childcare). They also offer a dual career network open for spouses of our researchers.

Terms of employment
The employment as postdoc is a full time and fixed-term position for 3 years. Starting date is July 1st, 2021 or after agreement.
Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
