We are looking for a highly skilled and dynamic bioinformatician with the ability to perform integrated --omics analysis. The position is for 4 years and is to commence February 1, 2022 or after agreement.

Background
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research’s vision is to strengthen interdisciplinary research that transforms our basic understanding of the mechanisms that underlie metabolic health and disease, and to accelerate this knowledge towards new prevention and treatment strategies. We were established in 2010, and in 2017, we moved into new laboratories, offices, and meeting rooms in the Maersk Tower www.maersktower.ku.dk.

Our research
The Zierath Group investigates the interactions between intrinsic biorhythms and external perturbations such as exercise and nutrient provision to identify novel translational strategies for prevention and treatment of metabolic disease. You can read more about the Zierath Group here.

Your job
We are seeking an experienced and multifaceted bioinformatician to analyse -omics datasets originating from dietary and exercise interventions. More specifically, we are seeking applicants with a proven track record of integrated analysis of untargeted metabolite data and transcriptome data. The applicant will be expected to perform data quality control, formulate hypotheses, analyse and report data, and manage projects through completion.

The Assistant Professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • research, including publication and academic dissemination duties
  • research-based teaching
  • public outreach
  • participation in formal pedagogical training program for assistant professors

Profile
We are looking for a highly skilled and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential criteria

  • A PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, or related field
  • Extensive experience in R programming, scripting, Unix environment and high-performance computing
  • Experience in the analysis of next generation sequencing and metabolomics
  • Experience in gene and metabolite network analysis, statistical modelling, and its applications in biological questions
  • Previous experience or familiarity with assays in biochemistry and molecular biology
  • Pre- and postgraduate teaching experience within bioinformatics and physiology
  • Strong publication record in peer reviewed journals
  • A strong ability to work in teams
  • Knowledge of human physiology and metabolic disorders
  • Excellent oral presentation skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in supervising and managing research staff
  • Experience with interactive dashboard creation (shiny)
  • Experience in git and collaborative programming
  • Active interest in deep learning and its applications within biology
  • Familiarity in python programming

Place of employment
The place of employment is at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, Maersk Tower, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment.

Terms of employment
The employment as Assistant Professor is a full time and fixed-term position for 4 years. The starting date is February 1, 2022.

Salary, pension, and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not been tax liable to Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of 19 December 2020.

The further process
