The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research
University of Copenhagen

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Research Assistant with experience in adipocyte biology and mitochondrial metabolite transporters to support the work of the Gerhart-Hines Group at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR), to start March 1, 2022 or after agreement.

Our research
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research’s vision is to strengthen interdisciplinary research that transforms our basic understanding of the mechanisms that underlie metabolic health and disease, and to accelerate this knowledge toward new prevention and treatment strategies. We were established in 2010 and in 2017, we moved into new laboratories, offices, and meeting rooms in the Maersk Tower www.maersktower.ku.dk.

The Center has around 260 employees who work in an international, highly collaborative research environment across a range of biomedical disciplines. You can read more about us here: www.cbmr.ku.dk.

Our group and research
The Gerhart-Hines group explores how neuronal, hormonal, and nutrient signalling networks govern adipose tissue biology and influence systemic energy homeostasis. We employ pharmacological and genetic approaches to interrogate physiological function and to identify opportunities for therapeutically harnessing adipose tissue metabolism. Read more about the Gerhart-Hines Group here.

Your job:
The candidate will apply gain and loss-of-function studies in adipocytes to assess the role of mitochondrial metabolite exchange in thermogenic biology. The candidate will extend this cellular characterization into in vivo genetic models and physiological phenotyping.

Your profile:

Criteria:

  • Master’s degree in molecular biology, metabolism, or similar
  • Experience with respirometry studies on seahorse and OROBOROS oxygraph
  • Experience in brown and white adipocyte culture and transfection/infection
