The University seeks to appoint an Associate Professor of Metabolomics and Fluxomics (fixed-term, 6 years) to the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research to commence as soon as possible..

Background

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research’s vision is to strengthen interdisciplinary research that transforms our basic understanding of the mechanisms that underlie metabolic health and disease, and to accelerate this knowledge towards new prevention and treatment strategies. We were established in 2010, and in 2017, we moved into new laboratories, offices and meeting rooms in the Maersk Tower www.maersktower.ku.dk.

Job description
The applicant will contribute to setting up quantitative flux analysis in mammals at CBMR. That will involve methods and strategies for measuring net tissue fluxes, circulatory turnover fluxes and determine sources of tissue metabolites, as well as metabolic flux analysis. The establishment of in-vivo measurements in mammals will be in close collaboration with the metabolomics platform (Metabolomics Platform – University of Copenhagen (ku.dk) and the Rodent Metabolic Phenotyping Platform (Rodent Metabolic Phenotyping Platform – University of Copenhagen (ku.dk)) at CBMR. Besides establishment of the technology and strategy for measuring metabolism in-vivo, the candidate expects to develop her/his own research within CBMR’s research vision. The candidate is expected to perform research in close collaboration with other research groups within CBMR.

The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
  • Academic assessments

Required qualifications
Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates. Furthermore, each applicant must be able to:

  • Document a high degree of original academic production at an international level, including considerable contributions to the development of metabolic flux determination in mammals.
  • Document (publication, teaching) experiences in mathematical modelling of fluxes.
  • Document pedagogical competencies
  • Document experiences in mass spectrometry based tracer analysis.
  • International network and collaborations.
  • Strong record in receiving external funding.
  • Provide research-based teaching

The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

Terms of employment

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 6 years.

average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
