København N

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic postdoc for a 3 year position to commence January 1st 2024 (or as close as possible to this date) to join the Mucosal Immunology Group headed by Professor William Agace at the Department of Immunology and Microbiology, Copenhagen University.

Information on the department can be found at: https://sic.ku.dk/

Our research
The successful candidate will join a superb team of international researchers within the newly established NovoNordisk Foundation challenge grant-funded ‘Center for Intestinal Immune Regulation (CIIR)’. CIIR comprises of 4 collaborating teams (Agace, CU; K. McCoy, Calgary (Canada); F. Bendtsen, Hvidovre hospital; L. Rønn-Larsen, DTU) whose combined expertise in mucosal immunology, gastroenterology, microbiota-host interactions, bioinformatics and state-of-the-art animal models aims to identify intestinal immune-stromal interactions important in intestinal homeostasis and in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In joining you will be part of a highly vibrant and cross-disciplinary team of researchers at the international forefront of mucosal immunology research.

Your job

Your project is to assess the role of environmental perturbations (dietary, antibiotic, antifungal, infection) on stromal cell subset development and immune function within the intestinal mucosa. For this you will utilize various state-of-the-art animal models and transgenic mice in combination with single cell RNA-seq, CITE-seq, and spatial proteomics/transcriptomics analysis as well as in vitro co-culture techniques to study intestinal stromal-immune interactions and downstream consequences of environmental perturbation on intestinal homeostasis and disease. The project is multi-disciplinary and will involve close collaborations with participating bioinformaticians as well as researchers analyzing human intestinal immune compartments in health and IBD. The work is also expected to include some teaching and/or supervision of students within the laboratory.

You must hold a PhD degree or equivalent in immunology, be highly motivated, have the ability to work independently but also enjoy contributing and working within a team. The successful candidates will have documented experience in mucosal immunology, working with transgenic animal models, mouse colony maintenance and in-depth analysis of murine intestinal tissues including cell isolation, multi-color flow cytometry and cell sorting and intestinal disease models. Additional experience with spatial transcriptomics/proteomics scRNA-seq and organ cultures will be considered a merit.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in Immunology
  • You have extensive experience in mouse models assessing intestinal bacterial and fungal interactions with the host
  • You have extensive experience in the isolation and digestion of murine tissues (including intestine, mesenteric lymph nodes) as well as cell isolation and phenotypic analysis.
  • You have extensive experience in flow cytometry (both conventional and spectral)
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams

Desirable experience and skills:

  • You have experience in microbiome (bacterial and fungal) analysis
