We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic postdoc for a 2-year position to commence midst November 2024.

Our research
Our research in the Molecular Metabolism in Cancer and Ageing Group strives to identify mechanisms that, at the molecular level, regulate muscle mass, function, and metabolism. With muscle wasting and insulin resistance being central features of cancer cachexia, ageing, and diabetes, we are uncovering the etiology of these conditions at the molecular level by studying cells, mice, and humans. In particular, we focus on how muscle wasting, and metabolic abnormalities can be improved or even reversed by exercise training.

Your job
Your tasks would be undertaking exercise training interventions in humans and hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp studies, analyse the data, and publish the results as scientific papers. Moreover, you will be co-supervising masters students on the project.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in Exercise Physiology or similar
  • You are highly experienced in undertaking exercise training interventions in humans and hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp studies
  • You have an active interest in understanding the molecular mechanisms of exercises beneficial effects in muscle
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Knowledge within system biology in relation to proteomic datasets

Place of employment

The place of employment is at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and human test facilities.

Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 2 years. The starting date is November 1st or after agreement. The workplace will be at The Department of Biomedical Sciences. For the first year you will spend half of your time at the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 38,575 DKK/approx. 5,171 EUR (April 2024 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

The further process
