The assistant professorship is a full-time, three-year training position, which begins on 1 December 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The associate professorship is a permanent position, which begins on 1 December 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.
We are looking for an innovative and dedicated applicant who will contribute to Aarhus University’s core activities in the areas of research, education, talent development and knowledge exchange.
The position is based at DPU Emdrup Campus, Copenhagen or DPU, Aarhus Campus.

The position
The Department of Educational Theory and Curriculum Studies aims to be at the forefront of research in the fields of didactics, disciplinary didactics and empirical school research. We are looking for dedicated applicants who can contribute to these research fields.
The position focuses on empirical research related to didactics, disciplinary didactics, teacher competences, learning outcome and student motivation. We expect the successful applicant to cooperate with colleagues in relation to these areas, for instance by contributing to the research unit in general didactics, the research programme Teachers and Teaching: Teacher Education, Practice, Professional Development (TaT), or the research unit in secondary-school pedagogy.
Key criteria of the assessment will be the quality of the research output, which is expected to meet international standards, and successful teaching experience at university level within the field of general didactics and educational research methods.
Research
We are looking for a candidate who has substantial research experience in general didactics with special relevance for empirical school research and/or teacher competences and teaching development, a person who can demonstrate skills in empirical research.
In addition, it will be considered an advantage if an applicant:
Teaching
An assistant professor will be expected to teach and supervise students at BA and MA level, whereas an associate professor will be expected to teach and supervise students at all levels (BA, MA and PhD). Both assistant and associate professors are expected to contribute to the development and application of innovative teaching methods. The position involves teaching duties as well as responsibility for the development of courses that encompass the above-mentioned fields of study. This could also include the coordination and leadership of education in the field of general didactics and educational research methods.
If an assistant professor is appointed, he/she will be obliged to complete a course in university teaching designed especially for assistant professors.
Talent development
If an assistant professor is appointed, he/she will be expected to develop his or her supervision capabilities at MA level.
If an associate professor is appointed, he/she will be expected to contribute to talent development within the fields of general didactics, disciplinary didactics and school research. He/she will be expected to supervise PhD students as well as teaching and developing PhD courses.
Knowledge exchange
It is expected that the successful applicant will engage in knowledge exchange as mentioned in the strategy for the Faculty of Arts, for instance in research cooperation with private companies, government consultancy, cooperation with civil society or the public dissemination of knowledge. Applicants should document any prior experience within the field of knowledge exchange.

- Substantial research experience in the field of general didactics and empirical school research
- Substantial experience of empirical research related to didactics, learning outcomes and student motivation
- Skills in collaborative and cross-disciplinary school research
- Skills in empirical school research and empirically informed teaching, including mixed methods
- An internationally oriented research profile
- A strong, relevant international publication profile
- Participation in national and international research networks
- Experience of participation in collective research projects
- Teaching experience at university level within the field general didactics and educational research methods, including innovative teaching methods, and mastery of academic English in the classroom
- Proficiency in languages relevant to the area of research
- Experience of interdisciplinary cooperation outreach activities
- Experience of attracting external research funding
- Experience of supervising student projects and an interest in researcher talent development.
