Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen
We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher for a 3-year post-doctoral position in Stem Cell Biology and Biochemistryto start in the Galvagnion group “Protein-membrane interactions in health and disease” in June 2020. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in stem cell biology and biochemistry. The purpose of the postdoc is to investigate changes in lipid metabolism associated with Parkinson’s Disease in iPSC-derived neurons and ex-vivo materials isolated from PD patients.
Information on the department can be found at: https://drug.ku.dk/
Our research
Our research aims at understanding the role of dysfunctions in lipid homeostasis in the emergence of neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases. Our approach consists in identifying, using biological models, lipid changes associated to these diseases and/or their risk factors and in using biophysical methods to provide at the molecular level the mechanism by which these lipid changes can influence functional protein-membrane interactions and protein aggregation. The different biological models that we consider vary in their complexity and includes patients cells and brain materials. Our interdisciplinary research involves an international collaborative network including neuroscientists, stem cell biologists, biochemists, protein biophysicists and lipid chemists.

Your job
We are looking for an outstanding and passionate scientist who has a strong background in human pluripotent stem cell biology. This post-doctoral project aims at understanding how disruptions in lipid metabolism associated with genetic risk factors for Parkinson’s Disease, can lead to the deposition of toxic protein aggregates in patients’ neuronal cells. Your task will involve the isolation and characterization of protein and lipids from patients’ ex-vivo materials and iPSC-derived neurons as well as the biophysical characterization of the influence of lipid changes associated with PD risk factors on protein-membrane interactions as well as protein aggregation.
The project is funded by a Carlsberg Foundation Young Researcher Fellowship and involves an established international collaborative network including neuroscientists and stem cell biologists.
Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:
Essential experience and skills:
Desirable experience and skills:
