PhD fellow in Physics, Niels Bohr Institute, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen
The Niels Bohr Institute, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD scholarship in physics commencing 01.08.2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Description of the scientific environment
The PhD project will be funded by a grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation’s Challenge Program and carried out within the new collaboration ‘Solid-state quantum simulators for biochemistry’ (SolidQ), between the Center for Quantum Devices (QDev), Center for Hybrid Quantum Networks (Hy-Q) and the Department of Chemistry, to develop quantum simulators. The project will be embedded in the condensed matter theory group at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen. Significant collaboration is expected to take place with other collaborators in the center, including Profs. Anders Søndberg Sørensen, Gemma Solomon, Mark Rudner, Brian Møller Andersen as well as experimentalists at QDev. For further information on the condensed matter theory group at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, please see http://cmt.nbi.ku.dk.
Project description
This project deal with theoretical modelling of networks of quantum dots coupled to microwave resonators. Alongside with the project, such systems will be realized and measured at QDev, and the overarching question is whether the electrodynamics of the resonators can emulate the nuclear motion in a molecule. This project aims to develop a theoretical understanding of small networks of such electrodynamically coupled quantum dots. In order to benchmark these devices as artificial molecules, part of the project aims at designing a set of basic experimental tests in parameter regimes where calculations remain possible. What are the prospects for emulating Franck-Condon dynamics, polaron formation, electron, and energy transfer across extended quantum dot networks, etc. and how can such effect be observed. Part of the project deals with driven systems, and altogether, earlier experience with nonequilibrium many-body techniques will be a great advantage.
Principal supervisor isAssoc. Prof. Jens Paaske, Niels Bohr Institute, paaske @ nbi.ku.dk, Direct Phone: (+45)35320395.
