The University seeks to appoint a professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology to commence as soon as possible. The overall aim is to establish a framework from which future research, education, outreach and innovation within and related to medicinal chemistry can grow and develop to the benefit of science and society.
The department has a strong tradition within medicinal chemistry and a unique composition of excellent researchers, infrastrustructure and related complementary fields within the pharmaceutical sciences which is further strengthened by our close collaboration with the Dept. of Pharmacy and the Dept. of Chemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences. With this professorship, the department wishes to harness the future potential of the field from a unique position to the benefit of medicinal chemistry as a scientific field in an interdisciplinary setting and in co-creation with external partners and stakeholders.

Job description
A professor at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology is a committed and responsible member of our academic community providing education, research, innovation and outreach activities to science and the society. The successful applicant will be responsible for outlining the vision and the future strategic goals of Medicinal Chemistry at University of Copenhagen together with internal and external partners. As professor you are also expected to be an active member of one of our interdisciplinary research clusters, where we aspire to facilitate research across complementary and synergistic research disciplines. The research clusters provide a departmental framework for scientific collaboration at high international level, and facilitate an inspiring scientific working environment.
The applicant should have a strong background in medicinal chemistry, for details see “Desired qualifications”. Additionally, a proven track-record of developing academic courses at the pre and post graduate level is required.

Six overall criteria apply for professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates. Desired qualifications:
(i) Demonstrated ability to develop novel reagents or technologies that are of broad applicability or yield new insights
(ii) Documented expertise in development of courses and teaching within organic and medicinal chemistry
(iii) Engagement in innovation activities and ability to transform scientific discoveries into novel innovations
Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

- Develop, organize and conduct research-based teaching, including associated examination, within the field of medicinal chemistry
- Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of students and researchers
- Engage in outreach and/or innovation activities both within the Department and towards academia and industry in general
- Being a committed and dedicated member of the Department’s academic community
- Obligation to share knowledge with society, e.g. participation in public debate

Required qualifications

- an original academic production and an established record in one or more fundamental aspects of medicinal chemistry at high international level, including considerable contributions to the development of Medicinal Chemistry within: research, teaching, innovation and outreach
- Experience with leadership of peers and technical staff and management functions, e.g. engage in the university’s internal and external activities, as well as knowledge and technology transfer
- development, organisation and conduction of research-based teaching within medicinal chemistry as well as supervision of students
- capacity to initiate, facilitate and participate in collaborative science involving scientists across scientific disciplines (e.g. medicinal chemistry, computational chemistry, structural biology, and cellular and molecular biology)
The professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.
