København Ø

A three-year PhD position is open at the Department of Cardiology, Copenhagen University Hospital – Rigshospitalet, Department of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

For decades the clinical consensus has been that a definite diagnosis of ischemic heart disease requires an invasive coronary angiography. Nevertheless, a shift of paradigm has been underway following the introduction of coronary CT angiography (CCTA). CCTA provides logistically simple, fast, and non-invasive visualization of coronary atherosclerosis. However standard CCTA does not offer functional assessment of coronary disease. Advanced technologies including CT fractional flow reserve (CT-FFR) and dynamic CT-perfusion imaging could substantially improve the clinical value of cardiac CT.

The purpose of the DYNAMITE trial (Dynamic CT stress myocardial perfusion, CT fractional flow reserve and coronary CT angiography for optimized treatment strategy in patients with chest pain syndromes, (clinical trials.gov identifier: NCT04709900) is to determine the ability of combined anatomical and functional cardiac CT imaging to improve morbidity and mortality in patients with suspected or known ischemic heart disease. The goal is to define the optimal evaluation and treatment strategy in this large group of patients.

About the position

The three-year PhD position is fully funded by a research grant from The Novo Nordisk Foundation. The PhD student will receive training in clinical research methods and cardiovascular imaging techniques. The PhD fellow will be part of an interdisciplinary and ambitious study team with expertise within medical imaging techniques, cardiology, and clinical research.
