København Ø
Do you have in-depth knowledge of Danish and European security policy, not least NATO and European security architecture more generally? And do you want to work on projects focusing on the movements that are currently happening in European security architecture and geopolitics with a new war in the neighboring region? Then you might be our new colleague specializing in NATO and European security policy at the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS).
About DIIS and the position
At DIIS, we have a long-standing tradition of contributing to the development of research and analysis in international studies. One of our ambitions is to provide research-based and well-researched input to decision-makers and the public debate on current issues of importance to Danish security, foreign and development policy. As an employee at DIIS, you will become part of an inspiring and vibrant knowledge environment at an institution that aims to be a leader in multidisciplinary research, policy analysis and dissemination of international studies. It is crucial that you are ready to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration and that you appreciate professional input to and from colleagues with other disciplinary and professional backgrounds, as this approach is an important part of DIIS' DNA.
We expect that you will be associated with the Foreign Policy & Diplomacy unit, where a significant part of the research deals with the relationship between states and international power as exercised in bilateral and multilateral contexts, including in and around NATO. You are a senior researcher, researcher or analyst focusing on NATO and European security policy, and you will contribute your knowledge in relevant forums and media, at public seminars and lectures, as well as at briefings and meetings between experts, practitioners and decision-makers. In this way, you will contribute to the research-based public sector consultancy that we carry out at DIIS. If you are a researcher/senior researcher, you are also expected to publish in peer-reviewed journals, thus helping to ensure DIIS a strong and competent voice in research and knowledge of NATO and European security policy. External funding is a common priority at the institute, and you are therefore expected to spend part of your working time on income-generating activities.
You will, among other things, work with projects within the following subject areas:
In addition, we expect you to have:
DIIS as a workplace
We offer an attractive and inclusive workplace where all employees can develop their professional and personal skills. For us, knowledge sharing, dialogue and feedback are essential to create a dynamic workplace. You are therefore expected to participate proactively in the institute’s joint efforts. We prioritize a high degree of presence, but at the same time we want employees to experience a good work-life balance. Therefore, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility of working from home to a certain extent. As DIIS is a bilingual Danish-English workplace, non-Danish speakers are expected to learn Danish within the first 3 years of employment with support from the institute. We are located right across from Nordhavn station – not from the inner city of Copenhagen and with excellent public transportation opportunities.
DIIS is a diverse workplace, and we therefore encourage all qualified applicants to apply for the position regardless of their personal background. We are aware of the environmental consequences of our activities, and we are constantly looking to become a more sustainable workplace, both on a daily basis and in terms of how we conduct our travel activities.
Salary and terms of employment
The position as a researcher/senior researcher/analyst is a full-time position, where you can expect a lot of travel activity. We would like you to start on 1 May or soon thereafter.
You will be employed according to the current collective agreement for academics in the state. In addition, it is possible to negotiate a personal qualification supplement depending on your academic background, professional experience and competencies. Depending on specific tasks and projects, functional allowances may also be considered. In addition, there is a pension scheme of 17.1%.
If you are a researcher/senior researcher residing outside of Denmark, you may in some cases be able to apply for tax under the special researcher scheme with a gross tax of 27% + AM contributions – a total of 32.84% of your salary for a period of up to seven years.
