Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic postdoc for a 23 month position starting Jan 1st 2024 to work on the design and characterization of de novo microproteins for therapeutic applications. This is a DFF (Danmarks Frie Forskningsfond) funded position.

Information on the department can be found at: https://ilf.ku.dk/

Our research
The Rogers lab is working to find valuable new molecules: new in form, function, or both. We are particularly interested in exploring biopharmaceuticals, modified peptides and proteins, as next-generation therapeutics. This requires international collaboration, and working at the intersection of molecular biology, protein science, organic chemistry, biophysics and chemical biology.

Your job
The emergence of deep learning-based methods is revolutionizing protein design. Small stable microproteins can now be generated routinely and reliably, and these can be imbued with functions such as binding to particular protein targets. Your tasks will be to apply the newest design methods to discover new binders, filter hits, order DNA constructs for expression, screen initial hits, express and purify the best designs and fully characterize binding biophysics to reveal their therapeutic potential.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, chemical biology or pharmacology
  • You are highly experienced in molecular biology, protein expression and purification, biophysics of molecular interactions (e.g. SPR, BLI, ITC, circular dischorism, DSF).
  • You have an active interest in new drug modalities
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Knowledge of deep learning methods applied to protein design.

Place of employment

The place of employment is at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories, facilities for protein expression and purification, computational resources, protein NMR, state-of-the-art biophysical equipment and analysis.

Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 23 months. The starting date is Jan 1st 2024.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation.
