Fixed-Term Associate Professor of Quantum Photonics
Niels Bohr Institute - NQCP
Faculty of Science
University of Copenhagen
The Niels Bohr Institute announces the availability of an Associate Professor position within the Novo-Nordisk Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP) section on photonic approaches to quantum computing and quantum information processing. The successful candidate must have a strong background in both experimental and theoretical aspects of quantum photonics preferably with a research profile in one or more of the following areas: advanced quantum photonics devices, architectures for photonic quantum computing, solid-state photon-emitter interfaces, or integrated quantum photonic processors. The successful applicant is expected to be able to attract and lead major research programs, to strengthen and closely cooperate with other quantum optics activities at the Niels Bohr Institute, and to collaborate internationally. Furthermore, the research program is expected to have strong synergy with the activities of NQCP and support its mission.
We seek an outstanding scientist who has (1) the talent and vision to define a vigorous independent research program, (2) the scientific maturity to supervise students, lead an independent research group, and bring own research ideas to fruition, and (3) the ability to attract external funding in open competitions at national and international levels.
Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required.
Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.
Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for an overall assessment of the candidates. Furthermore, each candidate must be assessed according to the specific requirements stated in the job advertisement.
