København Ø
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen
We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic assistant professor who will explore the feasibility of performing ancient plant hologenome research in a 22-month position that will commence on 1 March 2024.
Hologenomics is the combined study of the genomic content of host organisms and their associated microbiomes. Although increasingly applied across modern plants and animals, such tools are yet to be routinely applied to historic or ancient samples. This is partly due to technical limitations with regards to the currently available laboratory and computational methodologies, as well as possible challenges related to the diagenetic processes that specimens undergo post mortem, which could lead to the obscuration of true biological signals.
Information on the department can be found at https://globe.ku.dk.
Our research
Funded by the Danish National Research Foundation, the Center for Evolutionary Hologenomics consists of ca 10 research teams whose research interests focus on the interaction between hosts and their microbiomes, in the context of ecology and evolutionary biology.
Your job
In this 22-month position, funded through the Center for Evolutionary Hologenomics (CEH), we aim to hire a person with an excellent track record in the study of ancient plant genomics and population genomics, to perform pilot studies on the topic with the aim of writing future research proposals to develop the field further. The position will be closely linked to the research group of Professor Tom Gilbert, director of the CEH.
The assistant professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
