Associate Professor or Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Product Design
Department of Pharmacy

Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences

University of Copenhagen

The University seeks to appoint an associate professor or Tenure Track Assistant Professor to the Department of Pharmacy to commence as soon as possible.

Information on the Department can be found at: https://pharmacy.ku.dk/.

Job description
There are several drivers for a change within manufacturing sciences related to pharmaceutical production systems. We are facing increasing pressure to modernize existing technological solutions and to implement fundamental engineering principles into pharmaceutical production including sustainability aspects. Research in the 3P group (Pharmaceuticals, Processes and Products group) is focusing on integration of experimentally based approaches with fundamental understanding of physical, chemical, and engineering principles, including simulation of the system’s behavior.

The current research within the 3P group involves advanced material sciences using diffraction-based techniques, spectroscopic techniques, as well as development of process analytical technologies covering all typical unit operations in the secondary manufacturing of pharmaceuticals. Research activities are currently covering crystallization, amorphization, powder handling operations (milling, mixing, dry/wet granulation, compaction), freeze drying and particle design with several spraying techniques, as well as printed dosage forms. Experimental activities are supported by computational approaches covering molecular modeling, bulk scale physical modeling as well as multivariate data analysis, deep learning, and other machine learning approaches.

Candidates interested in designing manufacturing solutions for medicinal products may consider this position. Especially, a candidate with experience in the field of pharmaceutically relevant production systems including modelling can consider applying. Documented research experience including not only understanding the properties of active pharmaceutical ingredients and excipients in relation to their processing behavior, but also some experience with modeling of these systems at the bulk and/or atomic level is preferred.

The position will provide the successful candidate with good possibilities both for developing their own research, and to be supported by the existing expertise.

Teaching will be mainly at the bachelor level (first three years) as well as master level (fourth and fifth year) covering topics related to pharmaceutical sciences with focus on formulation design and manufacturing of pharmaceuticals. Another focus in the teaching profile will be in the implementation of digital/computational elements into the pharmacy curriculum.

The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
  • Academic assessments

The tenure track assistant professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • research-based teaching
  • sharing knowledge with society
  • participation in formal pedagogical training programme for assistant professors

The tenure track assistant professor’s performance will be evaluated through annual evaluations. Furthermore, the tenure track assistant professor will be evaluated in a mid-track appraisal.

After no more than six years of employment and on condition of a positive final appraisal, the tenure track assistant professor will be employed as associate professor. Read more about tenure track at the University of Copenhagen here: http://employment.ku.dk/tenure-track/tenure-track-at-ucph/
