The Digital Design Department at the IT University of Copenhagen invites applications for full-time faculty positions at the rank of full professor. The proposed starting date is is March 2020 or sooner.
The IT University’s vision is to create and share knowledge that is profound and leads to ground-breaking information technology and services for the benefit of humanity. The Digital Design Department delivers societal and business-related research and research-based education in the area of digital technology, media and design. Researchers in the department combine design thinking with technological insights and a critical perspective on human and social aspects of digital design and services.
The candidate
We look to hire at least two candidates with a PhD and a strong profile in user experience design, human computer interaction, service design, codesign, participatory design, interaction design, public digitalization, design of welfare technology, or closely related fields.
The candidate must be able to conduct education and develop the research agenda at the intersection of two or more of the following areas:
The ideal applicant has a combined theoretical and applied research approach. Experience with interdisciplinary work, including digital technology, media, art and design, is an advantage.
Job description
The professor is expected to contribute to research and education, to work strategically in research, research funding, and organisation of research, and mentor junior faculty and postdocs in the applied-for area. Moreover, the professor is expected to attract external research funding and to build external collaboration in joint research projects, also with partners outside of academia.

The IT University of Copenhagen (ITU) is a teaching and research-based tertiary institution concerned with information technology (IT) and the opportunities it offers. The IT University has more than 160 full-time academics. Research and teaching in information technology span all academic activities which involve computers including computer science, design research and user experience, computer games research and social sciences, business impact and the commercialisation of IT.

- User experience design, including a theoretical interest in affective UX, speculative and critical UX design, social and organizational aspects of UX design, aesthetic UX design or other theoretical UX design aspects. Design and application areas could cover health, finance, public service, entertainment, museums, and games.
- Application design and development with a focus on user experience, such as experience with relevant methods and tools for design and development - including mobile technologies and an understanding of state-of-the-art application platforms.
- Service design approaches, methods and techniques, including the use of customer journey maps and a theoretical interest in design for exploration and creation of services. Areas of interest could cover digitalization for citizens, communities, organisations, businesses, society, and infrastructuring through design
- Codesign methods, including an understanding of how to engage users in service or UX design processes, approaches and methods oriented toward allowing challenged user groups to participate in service or UX design processes

- Contribute to making ITU a leading university in UX Design or Service Design
- Lead cooperation with external partners
- Create a pipeline of external research funding
- Develop relations to external partners, to business, government and society at large
