Design School Kolding invites applications for a position as Assistant/Associate Professor with a special interest in Design Research and Design Management.

Design School Kolding’s educational programs are supported by a three-pronged knowledge base: knowledge from research, knowledge from artistic development and knowledge from practice. Research contributes to the teaching that takes place at the school. Research activities are organized in the school's three laboratories: Lab for Sustainability and Design, Lab for Social Design and Lab for Play and Design. Research is carried out in close collaboration with outside partners. The position can be associated to any of the three laboratories based on research profile and research plan.

Applicants must hold a PhD degree and have a research background with relevance for design research and design management. Applicants with an interest in and documented experience from any or all of the following will be prioritized:

  • Design studies based on qualitative research methodologies
  • Strategic design, design management and entrepreneurship
  • Codesign and cocreation of product-service-systems
  • Constructive design research methodologies

Potential applicants will be expected to teach and supervise student projects at the master program in design management offered by the University of Southern Denmark in collaboration with Design School Kolding as well as at the MA, BA and diploma programs offered by Design School Kolding. A strong teaching portfolio will be valued. The teaching languages are Danish and/or English.

Applicants with a strong passion and prior experience from design research environments resembling the profile of the three research labs at Design School Kolding are encouraged to apply. As assistant/associate professor, he or she is expected to take active part in the activities and research projects run by the lab that he/she will be associated with.

The application must contain:

  • a motivation letter
  • a detailed CV
  • degree certificates (including PhD-diploma)
  • a complete and numbered list of publications
  • 5-8 scientific peer-reviewed publications considered by the applicant to be the most important for this position.
  • a teaching portfolio detailing the candidate’s prior teaching experience, teaching skills, and teaching philosophy
  • a research plan detailing the candidate’s ideas and plans for her/his future research work.

Only applications written in Danish or English will be accepted.

Incomplete applications with regard to the above-mentioned requirements will not be assessed.

After the application deadline, a shortlist of the most promising applications will be made, which will then be assessed by an expert committee. When the committee has finished its review procedure, each applicant will receive an assessment of his or her application.

The application deadline is February 16 2020.

We expect the successful applicant to start as soon as possible and August 17 2020 at the latest.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

About us

Design School Kolding is an independent institution under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Science. We offer high quality BA, MA and PhD Degree programs with teaching based on innovative practice and research in close collaboration with the business community. We also offer postgraduate courses and consultancy services. Our BA program comprises four study programs, Communication Design, Industrial Design, Fashion & Textile Design, and Accessory Design, including interdisciplinary courses within methods, aesthetics, design history, the history of science as well as form studies. Our MA program is an international, cross-disciplinary program that supports and challenges the above-mentioned design fields and allows students to specialize in one of three programmes: Design for Play, Design for Planet and Design for People. Areas in which we also dedicate our research and development activities.

Another way of strengthening the education is by having research aimed towards the programmes, as well as towards the strategic areas. The research thus supports and develops the teaching while ensuring that there is cross-pollination between research and teaching with the researchers often using the student projects as data for their research. We offer a dynamic, internationally oriented education and research environment with close collaborations with external actors and research environments.
