The Department of Design and Communication at the University of Southern Denmark, Faculty of Humanities, invites applications for a position as assistant professor in humanistic information sciences. The position is placed at campus Kolding and is available from August 1, 2020.

We are looking for a person with strong interests in the subject’s more formal and technical aspects, who would also be able to teach students from the Humanities courses related to these areas and corresponding skills. We welcome applicants with a background in Humanities and a solid basis in either informatics, information technology or closely related areas. The Department of Design and Communication is a highly interdisciplinary department with research programs within such fields as, e.g. design research, communication and interaction research, tourism, learning and didactics, and information technology. The successful candidate is expected to participate actively in the department’s research program within Information Technology and Innovation and to take part in interdisciplinary collaborations of the research programs. Furthermore, the applicant should be prepared to contribute to the development of the curriculum for the subject of humanistic data science within SDU’s master program in Data Science (located at campus Odense). An applicant should hold a PhD degree within an area of relevance for research within the IT sector. The applicant is expected to have qualifications within at least three of the following six areas:
  • Modelling and design methods
  • Software and systems development techniques
  • Programming,
  • Web design and development (responsive, web 2.0 and 3.0 technologies)
  • Database technologies
  • Statistics, data analysis, and visualization
  • Practical experience with system design or system development is welcome. Working knowledge of different programming languages (JavaScript, Python, PHP, R, C#, etc.) is an advantage.     The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), Cirkulære om overenskomst for Akademikere i staten 2019 (the document only exists in Danish). An assistant professorship is a 3-year position. Employment stops automatically by the end of the period.     To qualify for the position you must have completed a PhD-degree by the time of employment.

Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee and the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her. The assessment report will subsequently be forwarded to the Head of Department who will assemble an appointments committee. An interview may form part of the overall assessment of the applicants’ qualifications. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material. If the application does not meet the requirements mentioned above, the Faculty of Humanities may reject your application without further notice. Applications received after the deadline will neither be considered nor evaluated. Shortlisting and tests may be used in the assessment process.
