The Department of Design and Communication at the University of Southern Denmark invites applications for a position as professor in language and technology interaction. The position is placed at the Kolding campus of the University and is available from 1 August 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Through this professorship, the department seeks to strengthen its position as an interdisciplinary research environment that integrates humanistic theory and methods with empirical research in technology development, as well as with its focus on sustainability and the interplay between humans and technology. The research of the candidate should bridge empirical human-technology interaction research with perspectives from the humanistic research tradition. Furthermore, the professorship should serve to strengthen the collaboration between the department and established international research environments.
The successful applicant is expected to play an active role in the already established humanistic research and study environment at the department as well as contribute to the establishment of interdisciplinary collaborations and research projects. The professor is expected to contribute to the ongoing development of the research within language and communication science focusing especially on the study of human interaction with new technologies.
The successful applicant will be especially responsible for the development of the humanistic profile in the interaction with technical engineering. Consequently, the assessment will place emphasis on the applicant’s experience with interdisciplinary research involving technologically-oriented scientific competences. Furthermore, a contribution to the University’s focus on addressing issues in sustainability research and innovation is expected.
The professor’s teaching obligations relate primarily to the study programme Master of Science in Information Technology in Web Communication Design but may also involve teaching obligations in technology interaction at the Faculty of Engineering and in business communication programmes.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) Cirkulære om overenskomst for Akademikere i staten 2019 (the document only exists in Danish).

Applicants for a professorship at the Faculty of Humanities are requested to submit a teaching portfolio with the application as documentation for teaching experience as well as supervision qualifications. Please read more here.

We only accept files in pdf-format no more than 10 MB per file. In case you have more than one file per field you need to combine the pdf-files into a single file, as each field handles only one file. We do not accept zip-files, jpg or other image files. All pdf-files must be unlocked and allow binding and may not be password protected.
Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee. When the assessment committee has submitted its report, the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her.
The assessment report will subsequently be forwarded to the Head of Department who will assemble an appointments committee. An interview may form part of the overall assessment of the applicants' qualifications.
The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material.
If the application does not meet the requirements mentioned above, the Faculty of Humanities may reject your application without further notice. Applications received after the deadline will neither be considered nor evaluated.

- hold a relevant PhD and additional scientific qualifications,
- document original scientific output at an international level, documenting potential for further development of the academic field,
- document experience with interdisciplinary research and development,
- be able to provide leadership in relation to research and education,
- have educational and supervisory experience as well as pedagogical competences for the purpose of contributing to research-based teaching at the highest level,
- have experience with applications for externally funded projects.
Responsibilities:
- strengthen the profile within the research area of language, communication and technology interaction with emphasis on the interdisciplinary fields,
- initiate events within research and communication,
- contribute to the ongoing development of and teaching in the study programmes in web communication design,
- initiate fund raising – play an active role in securing external research funding to support the research activities of the department,
- supervise PhD students,
- strengthen the collaboration with external stakeholders.
