The Department of Design and Communication at the University of Southern Denmark, Faculty of Humanities, invites applications for a position as Associate Professor within the field of Information Sciences and IT systems development. The position is placed at the Kolding campus of the University and is available from August 1, 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Department of Design and Communication is a highly interdisciplinary department with research activities in fields such as, design research, social design and interaction research, tourism, library studies, web communication, learning and didactics, information, technology and innovation, among other. An applicant to this position is expected to participate actively in the department’s research programs, as well as to take part in cross-disciplinary collaborations involving technical and humanistic research areas.

The department offers bachelor and master study programs in humanistic IT and comprises corresponding research activities, particularly data science, agile software development methods, knowledge representation and ontologies, web communication, web technologies including semantic web, mobile web and relevant programming languages.

The position involves, among other tasks:

  • to strengthen the department’s Teaching and research profiles within IT systems development.
  • teaching, particularly in subjects within the areas of programming and computational thinking, systems development, web technologies, semantic web technologies (web 3.0) and data science. Being able to teach these subjects to students with no technical background.
  • active participation in the department’s ongoing research activities.
  • contributing to the development of new research perspectives within the area of Information Sciences and IT systems development, along with the development of corresponding applications for external funding.

The applicant should have documented competences in three or more of the following areas:

  • Design, development, and programming of IT systems
  • Full stack web technologies (for both Web 2.0 and 3.0)
  • Agile Software Development methodologies
  • Data Science and relevant programming languages
  • Mobile Web development

The applicant is expected to have a Ph.D. within one of the following areas: Computer Sciences, IT systems development or a closely related technical field. In addition, the applicant must document:

  • teaching skills such as professional postgraduate teacher training for assistant professors or equivalent.
  • substantial relevant scientific and high-level research

Business experience from the IT sector is not required but would be highly welcomed.

International staff is expected to be able to teach in Danish after a two years period.

Application, salary and conditions of employment, etc.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), Cirkulære om overenskomst for Akademikere i staten 2019 (the document only exists in Danish).

If the successful applicant has not documented teaching experience corresponding to assistant professor level, the applicant will be employed on trial for the first 18 months.

  • List of publications indicating the publications attached
  • A maximum of 6 of the most relevant publications. Please attach one pdf-file for each publication. For any publication with a co-author, a co-author statement must be submitted as part of the pdf-file

Applicants for an associate professorship at the Faculty of Humanities are requested to submit a teaching portfolio with the application as documentation for teaching experience as well as supervision qualifications. Please read more here.

Application and all appendices must be in Danish, English or one of the Scandinavian languages. Please always include a copy of original diploma/certificates. We only accept files in pdf-format no more than 10 MB per file. In case you have more than one file per field you need to combine the pdf-files into a single file, as each field handles only one file. We do not accept zip-files, jpg or other image files. All pdf-files must be unlocked and allow binding and may not be password protected.

Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee and the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her. The assessment report will subsequently be forwarded to the Head of Department who will assemble an appointments committee. An interview may form part of the overall assessment of the applicants’ qualifications.

The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material.

If the application does not meet the requirements mentioned above, the Faculty of Humanities may reject your application without further notice. Applications received after the deadline will neither be considered nor evaluated.

Shortlisting and tests may be used in the assessment process. Please note that only a shortlisted applicant will receive an assessment.
