Kongens Lyngby
The Department of Civil Engineering invites applications for a 3-year Ph.D. scholarship in cement chemistry and materials science, starting from August 1, 2021.
This project aims to explore critical parameters that determine the durability and permeability of cement paste to guide decisions related to the performance of improved cementing materials. The project will combine experimental data (mineralogy, microstructure, permeability) with multiscale modeling (fracture, durability, service life) to understand ongoing phase changes and their effect on the long-term properties of cement-based materials.
The successful candidate will join an ambitious international research team with members from the Technical University of Denmark, Aarhus University, and The Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Center.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree in civil engineering, building physics, or materials science.
Candidates with a strong background in material and deterioration modeling of cement-based materials that are no strangers to experimental work and have a basic understanding of cement chemistry will be given priority.
Candidates should be highly motivated, eager to seek and share knowledge, work independently in a dynamic group environment, and be confident in written and spoken English. The applicant should strive towards scientific excellence, be ambitious and hard-working. Only applicants who seek to be among the brightest in their field and excel at the highest international level will be considered.
Approval and enrolment
The successful candidate will be subject to academic approval at DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of Ph.D. scholarship studies at DTU, please see the DTU PhD guide. http://www.dtu.dk/english/Education/PhD/Rules/PhDguide
