The 3-year post doc position is based on a collaboration between Aarhus University and Novo Nordisk. Specifically, the collaboration is between the Biopharm Transformational Research Unit (TRU) at Novo Nordisk and the research laboratory of Rasmus O. Bak at Aarhus University, Department of Biomedicine. The position is available from March 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter.

About the Department
Unit at Novo Nordisk- Biopharm Transformational Research Unit (TRU) is an area of skilled scientists and technicians investigating the function of novel drug candidates to improve the treatment of individuals living with rare genetic disorders such as haemophilia and sickle cell disease. We are deeply involved in the discovery of innovative Biopharm drug candidates through in vitro and in vivo research at Novo Nordisk.

Unit at Aarhus University- The research laboratory of Rasmus O. Bak specializes in developing and applying tools for genetic engineering in basic research and preclinical studies. The laboratory has a strong track record in advancing CRISPR-derived technologies, and is located in the brand new Skou Building in the heart of the university campus.

The position
We offer you an inspiring 3-year post doc position where the candidate will spend the first two years at Aarhus University and the third year at Novo Nordisk in Måløv, Denmark. The overall goal of the project is to establish a safe and efficient method for in vivo gene editing in hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). HSCs reside in the bone marrow and continuously produce mature blood cells. Hundreds of different severe blood diseases are caused by inherited genetic mutations that impair the production or function of these blood cells. Using viral gene vectors, this research project will investigate in vivo delivery of gene editing tools to HSCs to enable the development of genetic therapies for monogenic diseases of the blood.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate has a Ph.D. in Virology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or a related field with experience in gene delivery, hematopoietic stem cell biology, flow cytometry, mouse experiments, and state-of-the-art laboratory methods. In-depth knowledge about viral gene vectors as well as general knowledge about gene editing techniques is a prerequisite. Understanding of haematological disorders is considered a plus.

To be successful in this position, you must be highly motivated, have an entrepreneurial mind-set, superior problem-solving skills, and the ability to understand complex biological systems. You must be a self-starter and be strongly motivated to explore new ideas and methods to drive innovation for the benefit of patients.
