About the Department

Research Chemistry is involved in the discovery and development of proteins and peptides for treatment of diabetes, obesity, and other serious chronic diseases. We are organised in three departments and mainly focussed on protein and peptide medicinal chemistry. In Research Chemistry we work closely together with our colleagues across Global Drug Discovery and Global Research Technologies. The position will be associated to the department Research Chemistry 3, which consist of a mixture of Chemists, Technicians, and Ph.D. students, and is based in Måløv, Denmark.

The Position

You will have the opportunity to advance Novo Nordisk’s pipeline of protein- and peptide-based drugs as well as exploring other molecular formats. You will work with highly talented scientists and technicians in a multidisciplinary environment. The primary responsibility of this position is to actively engage in interdisciplinary project teams, where you will be responsible for the design and synthesis of new protein- and peptide-based drugs for a specific research project and pro-actively drive new project ideas. A thorough biological understanding and experience with pharmaceutical development and structure-activity-relationships is an advantage.

A primary responsibility is the design, planning and execution of laboratory experiments to generate new biopharmaceuticals. This includes (peptide-)synthesis and modification of proteins and peptides, as well as purification and characterization using UPLC, LC-MS, and NMR. You are expected to be able to work independently as well as in close project teams and drive project work to reach important milestones.

Experience with automation, programming, and a good equipment understanding is an advantage. The qualified candidate is expected to critically analyse, report, and interpret experimental data and prepare clear and well-documented findings for presentation when representing Research Chemistry in research project teams. Finally, the ideal candidate keeps up with recent literature and takes interest in identification and progression of novel technologies.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate holds a Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry or related discipline with 2-4 years of experience from industry or an academic setting working with Bioorganic Chemistry and/or Peptide Chemistry. The candidate is expected to have experience with chemical transformations of biomolecules or chemical methodologies within peptide synthesis. The ideal candidate thrives in a multidisciplinary setting, possess a thorough biological understanding and enjoy team work as well as working independently.

You have a high commitment to quality, data analysis, and reporting. Finally, since all work takes place in multidisciplinary project groups, you are a success-oriented team player, that enjoy building relationships in project groups. You are enthusiastic, proactive, enjoy communicating science, and holds a high degree of integrity.
