Novo Nordisk is building a world-class research team within Obesity & Liver Disease Research, and is seeking an experienced and highly motivated scientist to drive our efforts in the discovery of novel therapeutic molecules in non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).

About the department

Liver Disease Research is a cross-disciplinary department in Global Obesity & Liver Disease research, dedicated to research within the cardio-metabolic field, in particular non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). As part of Novo Nordisk’s strategy within chronic diseases, this department has a focus towards building a research platform, target identification, validation and pre-clinical progression of new treatment options within NASH.

Currently, the department consists of 16 employees of whom 8 are Research Scientists on various levels. We work in a flexible, collaborative, and cross-functional setting, while keeping focus on quality and goals in an informal environment.

Key responsibilities

As our new Research Scientist you will be expected to contribute to innovation by identifying and exploring new therapeutic agents to treat non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Your scientific responsibilities will include design, execute, coordinate, and report experimental studies in vitro and possibly in rodents for model characterization, target validation, and drug efficacy in collaboration with the in vivo team. Depending on your seniority, you will be guiding 1-2 laboratory technicians to conduct ex vivo analyses such as immunostaining and flow cytometry, primary cell culture, and various immunoassays.

With your expertise within inflammation, you will be further strengthening our experimental research platform with novel, state-of-the-art technology to drive human disease understanding and establishment of mode of action studies of our current drug candidates. Maintaining a broad scientific network is a key to success and you are expected to foster and sustain the necessary external collaborations.

Required qualifications

You hold a Ph.D. degree in Immunology or related discipline with 2-3 years of post-doc experience in inflammation. You have hands-on experience conducting mechanistic studies relevant to immune regulation in vitro, ex vivo, and possibly in vivo, and have a proven scientific track-record and a thorough understanding of inflammation and fibrosis, and preferentially liver pathophysiology in both humans and rodents. Experience with preclinical animal models mimicking immunological disorders and/or acute inflammation is advantageous. Broad experience with immunological and molecular principles such as primary cell isolation/culture, multicolour flow cytometry, cell sorting, imaging techniques, and immunoassays is a prerequisite.

You are a self-motivated team player with strong communication skills as you will be responsible for appropriate reporting and communication of scientific results. You enjoy working in cross-disciplinary teams and also independently on multiple programs in a fast-paced environment. You are goal oriented with a focus on moving projects and have strong analytical skills.
