Are you enthusiastic about driving the design of next generation biologics that will change the life of patients with diabetes and other serious chronic diseases? Are you an expert in employing computational protein design techniques and have a deep curiosity for modern data science technologies? Do you thrive in an informal working environment? Then you could be our next highly valued Modelling Scientist in the ‘Molecular Modelling & Design’ department at Novo Nordisk A/S.

About the Position

At Novo Nordisk you will be joining the “Molecular Modelling & Design” department, where you will collaborate closely with several other research scientists across the R&D area to improve and accelerate the design of new biologics. You will have access to advanced state-of-the-art modelling software, such as Rosetta, Schrodinger and MOE and will drive the design of peptides, proteins, and antibodies by employing and developing structure-based and machine learning/data driven modelling approaches to improve functional and biophysical properties of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). A focus of the work will be also strengthening data driven compound design efforts by closely collaborating with data scientists in the Computational Research area as well as carrying out the API design in close collaboration with other research scientists in multidisciplinary teams. The project teams at Novo Nordisk work in a flexible, collaborative and cross-functional setting with very ambitious scientific goals. An important part of the job will be to engage with stakeholders across the interdisciplinary and international organization.

Qualifications

  • PhD within a computational structural biology discipline, such as Computational Chemistry, Molecular Modelling, Biophysics or Cheminformatics, and at least 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry (working within in silico driven drug design) or group leader experience in an academic setting.
  • Excellent track record and in-depth knowledge of applying and driving protein structure-based design methods in a drug discovery context, preferably for biologics such as peptides and antibodies. Experience from the area of small molecule or nucleotide design is considered as a plus.
  • Proven ability to initiate and lead strategic technology development projects, cross-departmental teams and/or external collaborations.
  • Highly skilled and experienced using protein modelling software such as Rosetta, Schrodinger and/or MOE.
  • Solid programming and scripting skills (e.g. Python, R) and experience with statistical analysis and data science techniques. A strong interest and experience with machine learning techniques such as generative models and transfer learning as well as other chem-/bioinformatics approaches is considered a plus.

As a person you use your curiosity to secure that key structural challenges are identified. Your commitment and scientific insights are used to address the core issues and your communication skills enable you to present the results and thereby getting strong impact on project progress. You can collaborate well with people at all levels. Furthermore, you show a positive attitude towards challenges, take the initiative for driving your projects, and can stay on top of things in a dynamic working environment.
