A combined position as clinical professor (50%) is vacant at the Department of Regional Health Research (IRS), Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and as consultant (50%) at the Department of Urology, Hospital of South West Jutland and at the Department of Urology, Odense University Hospital (OUH), respectively. The position is for a 5-year period with possibility of extension.
Both hospitals have received acknowledgement of high-quality research and education and are part of the University Hospital of Southern Denmark.
The academic position
The clinical professor will be appointed at the Department of Regional Health Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, SDU. The position will be within Urology and focus areas could include robot-assisted surgery and benign as well as malignant areas in Urology. Trans-sectional research and collaboration will be expected.
Areas of responsibility
The clinical professor will be responsible for developing diagnostic strategies and optimization of treatment before, during and after hospitalization, and, furthermore, be responsible for developing new strategies for collaboration between different local and regional sectors involving citizens with acute and chronic urological diseases.
Research activity, network and collaboration
The clinical professor will be expected to initiate and increase research activity and to expand collaboration with other researchers at hospitals both inside the region of Southern Denmark and nationally and internationally. Moreover, the successful candidate must maintain and develop national and international contacts and secure funding. Profiling this research area in the public eye will be an important task.
Supervision and teaching
The clinical professor will be responsible for teaching pre- and postgraduate medical students and other healthcare professionals as well as mentoring post-docs, PhD-students, and undergraduate students.
The clinical position
The clinician will be appointed as consultant at the Department of Urology at the Hospital of South West Jutland and at the Department of Urology, Odense University Hospital (OUH), respectively. The consultant must fulfil the requirements and responsibilities of a consultant in a department of Urology receiving and treating a wide variety of patients with urological disorders.
Allocation of time between the two hospitals/workplaces
The clinical professor will be equally affiliated to each hospital (50%) with 25% as clinical professor at each department. Thus, equal physical attendance will be expected at both departments. However, depending on individual qualifications, a different allocation of time at each hospital unit may be possible.
Reference
In clinical and financial matters, the professor/ Head of Research refers to the departmental management. In research matters, he/she refers to the university’s Head of Department.

Qualifications
The applicant must have a PhD-degree or equivalent and must be qualified as a specialist in Urology. Additionally, the applicant must have substantial skills in both clinical aspects and research within the field of Urology. The preferred candidate has demonstrated skills and scientific achievements within this area, the ability to motivate, supervise and has documented research management skills, good collaborations abilities and visions of how to further strengthen Research Unit of Urology. Danish is not required initially however, must be mastered within the first two years of employment. In cooperation with the language centre “Lærdansk”, SDU offers specialised language courses.
Salary and terms of employment
The appointed applicant for the professor position will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
