One postdoctoral fellow position in biochemistry / chemical biology is available for two years at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Southern Denmark. Starting date of the position will be 1 May 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. Application deadline: 28 February 2020.
Epigenetics most often refer to processes such as enzymatic modifications of DNA and numerous posttranslational modifications of the associated histone proteins, that lead to the transfer of genetic information from generation to generation, without changes in the underlying sequence of DNA. To understand the enormous intricacy of the epigenetic language, it is necessary to deepen our knowledge, at the atomic level, of biomolecular recognition of posttranslational modifications of histones.
As a postdoctoral fellow you will work on a Novo Nordisk Fonden-funded project aimed at providing the most comprehensive and complete understanding of biomolecular recognition of crotonyllysine by YEATS domain that plays key roles in human health and disease. You will apply modern chemical biology tools in investigations of crotonylated lysine residues in histone proteins with the associated YEATS reader domain proteins.
Specific Requirements
- PhD in chemical biology, biochemistry or molecular biology;
- Experience with protein research;
- Experience with incorporation of unnatural amino acids into proteins;
- Strong motivation and interest in working at the interface between chemistry and biology;
- Excellent skills in written and spoken English.
For further information please contact Associate Professor Jasmin Mecinovic, e-mail: [email protected].
Application, salary etc.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.
The application must include the following:
• A letter stating your specific interest, motivation and qualifications for the project in question (max. two pages) .
• A detailed curriculum vitae including personal contact information and information on previous employment.
• Copy of PhD degree, including transcript of notes/grades.
• A full list of publications stating the scientific publications on which the applicant wishes to rely.
• At least two signed reference letters. Should your referees wish to send their letters directly to us, please have them use e-mail: [email protected] mentioning your name and the title of the position in the subject line. And please note that these also need to reach us before deadline.
Shortlisting may be used in the assessment process.
Incomplete applications and applications received after the deadline will neither be considered nor evaluated.
To qualify you must have passed a PhD or equivalent. Applications will be assessed by an expert assessor/committee. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the university.
The University wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.
