Join us as Research Assistant in Robotics for Welfare Applications
SDU Robotics invites applications for a position as research assistent for a 2-year period. The position is available starting April 1, 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter.
Who we are
We believe that technology has the power to change the world. At SDU Robotics we work with a variety of problems, solutions, and domains, including human-robot interactions in the context of Welfare Robotics. We strive to develop solutions, which can be put into use at hospitals and in elderly-care institutions.
SDU Robotics is a part of the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark, located in Odense. We have state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities, and we now invite applications for a Research Assistant in Robotics for Welfare Applications.
What to expect
The candidate will be integrated into the SDU Robotics section, specialized in robot solutions involving sensorial processing, mathematical modeling, learning and simulation targeted at advanced robot systems for welfare but also other application domains.
The section comprises an international staff and is involved in a variety of national and European projects. The section aims to solve challenging research problems from real applications and to participate in implementing the achieved results in real solutions with end-users.
To further strengthen the welfare robotics activities of the SDU Robotics section, we want to strengthen the team with a researcher that contributes to our current activities but also engages in new projects based on the achievements in the projects SMOOTH (smooth-robot.dk) and Health-CAT (healthcat.eu).
The ideal candidate
We are looking for a candidate that can contribute to the process of the design and implementation of flexible robotic solutions for the welfare domain involving the combination of mechanical design, robot programs and handling of human-robot interactions. Furthermore, the successful applicant will interact with other research groups.

Conditions of employment
Employment as a research assistent requires scientific qualifications at graduate level. Employment as a research assistent is temporary and will cease without further notice at the end of the period.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.

Ideally, our candidate has the majority of the following qualifications:
- Practical experience with ROS
- Practical experience with mobile robots
- Strong programming skills (e.g. C++, Python, MATLAB)
- Skills related to the design and development of software solutions
- Experience with computer vision
- Practical experience with navigation
- Basic understanding of control theory
- Basic experience with fundamental electronics such as circuit design
Preferable the successful candidate also demonstrates the ability to:
- integrate partial solutions or components into a holistic prototype
- communicate efficiently to both experts and colleagues from other domains
- integrate him/her-self into an interdisciplinary team
