Odense M

A Bioinformatician position is available at the Natarajan Lab for computational analysis of genomics datasets and method development. Our interdisciplinary and international team uses single-cell genomic approaches to study transcriptional regulation in stem cell biology and embryonic development. We are part of part of Danish-Institute of Advanced Study (D-IAS) and based at the Functional Genomics and Metabolism Unit, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark (SDU).

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate to develop computational tools and analysis methods for genomics data. The position would involve development of integrative bioinformatic approaches, statistical data analysis and machine learning models to combine single-cell transcriptomics, epigenomics, spatial and multimodal data to study transcriptional regulation and other biological problems. Depending on background and interest, wet-lab experiments with microfluidics, imaging and sequencing would be possible.

The selected applicant will be strongly supported by skilled colleagues, our core infrastructure, expertise in single-cell transcriptomics, sequencing, computational analysis (IMADA), Bio-imaging (DaMBIC) and facilities (eScience Centre, SDUCloud and National HPC Centre). We closely collaborate with international and national researchers, and the selected applicant will have an opportunity to work with international Human Cell Atlas computational community.

Your profile:
Essential:
• Master’s degree in relevant areas (Bioinformatics, Computational biology, Genetics, Biostatistics, Mathematics or a related field). Candidates with PhD degree would be given preference.
• Proficiency in programming (preferably Python and/or R) and in UNIX/Linux.
• Knowledge of statistical data analysis and/or machine learning.
• Proven understanding and experience in the fields of genomics and high-throughput data analysis.
• Fluency in English language (reading/writing/speaking).

Desirable
• Experience in applying Machine learning and Bayesian approaches to large datasets.
• Knowledge (or interest) in molecular/cellular biology.
• Experience with the use of HPC systems.
• Contribution to biological discoveries and interdisciplinary science.

We offer:
The bioinformatician/research assistant position is available for three years.

Start date: 15 April 2020 or soon thereafter. Application deadline: 31 March 2020.
