The Department of Biology at the University of Southern Denmark invites applications for a tenured position as associate professor in the area of marine microbial ecology with particular focus on marine nitrogen and carbon cycling and climate interactions. Application deadline: 23 April 2020.
We seek creative and ambitious applicants with excellent records of achievement to join our department. Research at the department ranges broadly from microorganisms to ecosystems to global elemental cycles, including also demography, animal behaviour and sound communication. The candidate’s research interests should synergise with these activities in general and with the department’s internationally renowned research in biogeochemistry, microbial ecology and Earth evolution. The candidate should also contribute to the department’s education of BSc, MSc and PhD students with competence and dedication.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
• Establish and lead her/his own research area in microbial ecology and/or microbial responses to climate change
• Conduct externally funded research of the highest international standard
• Publish research outcomes through international peer-reviewed publications
• Contribute to teaching of existing courses at BSc and MSc level, and to the development of new courses at the department
• Supervise bachelor, master and PhD students
• Contribute to the development of public outreach and/or community engagement programmes, and to the performance of departmental and university service.
The successful candidate will be supported with:
• Access to a well-developed research infrastructure
• Laboratory space, shared equipment, and access to modern core facilities, such as imaging and computational facilities
• A research climate of lively, open and critical academic discussion within and across different fields of research.
Qualifications:
• Track record in research and obtaining external funding commensurate with the associate professor rank
• Experience in international research
• Formal training in pedagogics at university level and documented pedagogical skills
• Experience in under- and post-graduate teaching and supervision
• Experience in research communication
• Ability to strengthen national and international collaboration within the research area
• Strong interpersonal skills.

Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.
