SDU Robotics, part of the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), invites applications for one or more positions as Postdocs in the area of modelling and simulation for robot technologies. The positions will be vacant from 1 June 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter, and are for a 3-year period.
Research environment
The candidate will be integrated in the unit SDU Robotics that is at the core of the Odense Robotics Cluster involving Universal Robots, Mobile Industrial Robots (MIR) and 130+ other companies. We are specialized in robot solutions involving modelling, simulation and control of advanced robot technologies (systems and services) for industrial, welfare and medical applications.
The group is involved in a variety of national and European projects and features a strong network of academic and industrial partners. We solve challenging research problems from real applications and implement novel robot solutions together with end users such as LEGO, Danfoss and COBOD.
We are located in Odense and have state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities.
Job description
We are looking for candidates to extend our research activities in robotics with a focus on novel industrial applications, such as bringing industrial robots to construction sites, shipyards and offshore locations. Here we seek candidates who can contribute to develop methods for model- and simulation-based engineering of advanced robot technologies, i.e. the simulation-based control we are developing for 3D concrete printers in the project N3XTCON (https://www.sdu.dk/en/om_sdu/institutter_centre/sdurobotics/researchprojects/n3xtcon).

Conditions of employment
Employment as a postdoc requires scientific qualifications at PhD level. Employment as a postdoc is temporary and will cease without further notice at the end of the period.
Research will be predominant in the position. Teaching assignments can be agreed individually. Furthermore, other types of assignments may occur to a limited degree. The Faculty determines the distribution of the various assignments. The weighting of the different assignments may vary over time.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.

- Documented practical experience with software architectures for simulation
- Documented knowledge in robotics, simulation and VR/AR
- Strong programming skills (particularly in C/C++, Python, Matlab and Qt)
- Strong mathematics skills and practical knowledge in 3D modelling
- Ability to work independently as part of an agile team, with a strong sense of responsibility
- Willingness to bridge the gap between academia and industry
